They call them the “forgotten migrants.” Of the approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, over two thirds of them come from Mexico and South America, according to data compiled by the Pew Research Center last year. However, the population from other regions is growing sharply. Pew found that, as of 2022,…

“The Christian right, the Christian nationalists, they tend to focus on, like, the Old Testament or Paul. They skip right through the Gospels and Jesus,” the volunteer said. “They love Leviticus, right? But they don’t so much love when Jesus says, you know, feed the hungry, and turn the other cheek, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

The Christian Right absolutely gets off on the opportunity for social murder. They tut-tut when LGBTQ people here complain about unsafe conditions, saying “we don’t throw gays off the tops of buildings like [X country], so what are you complaining about?” Then they deport asylum seekers to countries where they know they’ll be arrested or lynched. And they fan the flames by proselytizing overseas with violent, hate-filled interpretations of Christianity.

I’m looking for ways to donate to these organizations. Can you provide links?

That seems like it might be dangerous for those organizations, in the current climate.

How do we get around that which they don’t want us to get around? Seems like it’s going to hard unless you’re local, and with the flood of hired informers and thugs that ICE is now able to pay for, that won’t get any easier.

I’m conflicted about this. My child is in the US. Legally. While it’s great to address this, im afraid of what this could lead to.

Breaking the law is not a good idea. They will get you.

Find folks locally wearing whistles … go from there.

Might not be a good idea, but when the law is unjust, it’s a moral requirement.

Stellar!

There are churches mentioned in the article, guessing they have websites and a donation page, usually there is a place for a note and you may ask to direct your donation accordingly.

These are the people who give Christianity a good name. The “Tea-publicans”?

“The Christian right, the Christian nationalists, they tend to focus on, like, the Old Testament or Paul.

Throughout history, there have been a lot of folks, movements and countries calling themselves “Christian” and justifying discrimination, inquisition, and wars of conquest in its name. Nothing particularly new about the current situation in the US.

And, of course, the Republican christo-nationalism must be defeated. These folks in NYC have got it right.

But it’s in the Old Testament, too. Consider Micah 6, verse 8:

He has shown you what is good. What does the lord require of you? To act justly and love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Love mercy and act justly.

What does the Trump kleptokakistocracy know nothing about?

Cash is king. It’s still not traceable and it’s fungible. Of course, you have to find a way to get it where it is needed.
