When a country fails to protect the most vulnerable of its population – the children, the elders, the ill, the disabled, the poor, the mentally ill – it has failed its moral responsibility to all of us. Elder abuse is real, and it has been particularly bad during the COVID years – because of fewer people being able to visit people in nursing homes, and the difficulty in retaining good healthcare and social work staff.

While they may not like to get crapped on for doing shitty work, they exist in a political culture that now has vast numbers and that supports and admires the work they do to bring down democracy and liberty. They aren’t embarrassed, they get energized by their supporters, and feel justified in their feelings of contempt for the rest of us, you know, the rational ones of us that can actually think our way out of a wet paper bag.

One degree of separation: I have a stepdaughter on Medicaid. She worked for decades, raised 4 boys to adulthood. She’s now unable to work full time, has serious medical issues. These people looking to cut the safety nets are either greedy or sadistic.

Even if the case is settled or dropped before the Gang of Six hears arguments, will that stop them from ruling? They dug up the corpse of the EPA’s power-plant anti-pollution plan just so they could kill it again.

This is the kind of grim and convoluted law, so boring to the people it will directly affect, that is going to come our way for the next 3 to 4 decades or more. This is the stuff that keeps me up at night.

I am telling my 36 year old daughter and her husband to count on nothing besides what they can save. This really alarms me since my wife and I would not survive without social security for very long. The Republicans talk about wokeness, but they are going after the New Deal.

I listened halfway to Tucker - one of the amazing things he says (among many) is that no one can explain Watergate to this day - one of the most well-documented and written about scandals and subsequent court cases of all time. Tucker Carlson is one scary bag of shit.

Pols been doing this since FDR conceived it. It’s a bizarre personality type that wants to deprive fellow humans of life as it gets supported by these measures come to be known as the safety net. What constituency are they looking to appease with this effort? I guess it’s a hatred of “socialism” and that’s as evil as witchcraft.
