Originally published at: Inside The Farce Of Swaying Republican Senators On Trump’s Nominees
The “blockbuster” hearings on Donald Trump’s most unavoidably unfit Cabinet nominees feel completely hollow. Republicans have no interest in running afoul of Trump (look what happened to Joni Ernst), and Democrats are largely too demoralized and limp to execute a compelling campaign against the nominees. The crusade against Pete Hegseth petered out into repetitive women…

Collective faints?
We’ve heard about the dangers and folly of obedience in advance but this looks more like abject surrender …Jeebus!
It’s an error to assume weakness of messaging for the Dems: if they had a message, how would they get it out?
Sinclair Broadcasting is hiring here in SoCal, and there has been a 40% drop-off in new commissions since the writer’s strike.
Done to death in the details, meanwhile we wail and gnash our teeth.
The Tech Bros billionaires are getting what they paid for too and right now:
Three top tech firms on Tuesday announced that they will create a new company, called Stargate, to grow artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison appeared at the White House Tuesday afternoon alongside President Donald Trump to announce the company, which Trump called the “largest AI infrastructure project in history.”

The greedy piglets aren’t letting any moss grow under their nuts; pretty clearly been planning this for awhile. Shades of Reagan’s Star Wars except even griftier.
Screw these guys; enough!
Patel, the son of Indian Gujarati immigrants, is not a MAGA avatar straight out of “central casting.”
I disagree.
“Republican fence-sitters”
That species went extinct.
Durbin is old, feeble, and useless. He needs to retire. Similarly, Schumer should retire. He’s weak. Unless more vigorous Democrats start resisting the fascist MAGAts like Patel, they are literally helping kill off democracy through their cowardice.
Patel is not white so MAGAts don’t care about him.
Will the word “feckless” become overused in the next couple of years?
I see @demosthenes59 has some useful replacement descriptors.
So we end up where we are on Hegseth. Democrats have all but given up, and Republicans can embrace Trump’s darkest choices
Misleading.
It reads as though Dems have given up on Hegseth, with which I can agree and I don’t see anything wrong with that. Republicans own this show.
The sentence, however, leaves the impression that Democrats intend to stay home, and Republicans are tickled pink with happily accepting everything Trump says and does.
I’m going to need sources on that. Was it Lindsey, Ted, or maybe Marjorie, or…? It wasn’t Mike Johnson.
Maybe the dude needs to be extra nasty to get in with the big boys……
“Democrats are largely too demoralized and limp to execute a compelling campaign against the nominees.”
This is what separates history’s winners from the bitches who don’t even rate a fucking footnote. If Democrats are still fucking whining about November, they need to resign immediately and go run a fucking farm stand somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Democracy is hanging in the balance and they’re too fucking weak to fight back on Gabbard who more than likely fucked Putin? Or a Christo-fascist lunatic taking over the US military? Suck it up, grow a motherfucking spine and fucking fight you fucking pussies!!!
In some ways, on some days, I feel like what we really need is for the Democrats to finally be supplanted by something new. Something actually vigorous, oppositional, young, and unabashedly (dare I say it?) socialist and populist. Because the old people keep getting fooled by a sense of decorum and bipartisanship. There is no bipartisanship. There is only the felon or not.
Maybe not retire, but certainly turn the reins of power over to folks that understand what we are dealing with here does not deserve comity, accommodation or compromise.
We need folks that are going to fight for what remains of our country.
My cat, P.B., RIP 12/21/2014 - 01/17/25.
He is survived by his brother, J., and his nemesis, Kafka.
I am not okay, but time will scab over the scar.
Careful what you eat.
The difference between what the Dems in Congress are doing now, and what the democratic parties in Weimar Germany did in early 1933 is … uh … can I get back to you on that?
The current leadership in the Democratic party needs to change. I’m not disputing that, at all. I was heartbroken when AOC didn’t become chair* of the oversight committee.
I can’t help but think, however, that a great deal of our inclination to attack Democrats shows us exactly how much of a problem media bias is. We don’t even talk about changing the minds of Republicans, we see them as a force of nature. It’s much easier to debate somebody rational, and to critique your friends for their response to the storm than it is to critique the storm.
We are never going to get out of this if we don’t change the Republicans. Please don’t think I have an answer, or that I’m preaching some brilliant observation. I don’t. I don’t know what to do.
*Or whatever they call the minority senior position on committees.
