A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
I’m not sure longtime Fox News critics and observers could have imagined a day like Tuesday ever coming to pass. The cable news net’s lies, fabrications, bamboozlement, and misinformation all came home to roost in spectacular fashion.
On a day that not so long ago would have seen Fox News preening over its top star’s bogus Monday night segment downplaying the Jan. 6 attack, Rupert Murdoch’s baby was instead lambasted by Republicans and law enforcement and humiliated by more revelations from the titanic defamation case pending against it.
There’s more than one trainwreck in the news this week. Uncertain which is more toxic.
So the day after air video claiming the insurection never happened
Tucker interviews disgraced capitol officer
his career came to a screeching halt after he was spotted outside the Capitol wearing a Make America Great Again hat, which received national attention**emphasized text*
who says capital police were not adequately prepared for the riot
I would feel better about all the Fox News Eating Itself stuff if the network didn’t have a hard core of followers – including too many members of Congress, despite the words against its Jan. 6 coverage. (And part of the reason all that matters is that the rest of the media pays attention – sometimes because it’s newsy, other times because it brings in clicks. Just like tfg’s tweets.)
Looks like Fox f*cked with the wrong voting machine company.
And…the wrong voting software company.
.
Fox News failed to dismiss $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit brought by Smartmatic over false election fraud claims, as judge finds “substantial basis” for claims.
FOX news faces a lawsuit from the voting machine company Smartmatic for intentionally spreading false information and conspiracies of election fraud while knowing these claims were unfounded.
A New York state judge said on Tuesday that Smartmatic, a voting machine company, can pursue its $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit claiming that Fox News Network, Rudolph Giuliani and others falsely accused the Smatmatic of rigging the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
Smartmatic accused the defendants of turning it into a “villain” by fabricating a story that its technology helped Biden steal the 2020 election from Trump, doing irreparable damage to the business’ reputation.
If Tucker hates trump so “passionately” then why does he defend trump and his lies on tv? Is it just the ratings? Fox’s stock value? His paycheck?
Some things are more important than money … or ratings.
I finally found a point of agreement with Sucker Carlson: We both hate T----p passionately. The difference is I came to that realization in 2016. What took Sucker so long? Oh right: Sucker has been profiting from T—p’s BS all these years.
My favorite news is Gym Jordan’s in a panic. His base wants blood and they’re not getting it. Jordan can’t deliver and he can’t figure out what to do. These people.
Now is the time for the MSM to stand up to one section of the Repub party and Trump.
TV, newspapers, radio, whatever means used to reach the public.
Why is the MSM not screaming for McCarthy’s removal over making FOX our Government news outlet?
Might as well call FOX TASS.
The segment ends with an amazing and hilarious “to be sure” closing from Baier: “And to be clear, no one here at Fox News condones any of the violences that happened on Jan. 6.”
As has been said repeatedly, what violence? How can FN condone or support something they vociferously deny ever happened?
From Moscow Mitch:
“It was a mistake, in my view, for Fox News to depict this in a way that’s completely at variance with what our chief law enforcement official here at the Capitol thinks.”
He’d better be supporting the law enforcement at the Capitol. To fail to do so compromises what they might be willing to do to protect him in the future.
Look, I’m the first one to shout that the GQP idiots would stand behind Sucker because they don’t want to lose access. But I am ecstatic at the GQP response so far to this travesty. Sucker should be sent on a very long, possibly permanent, vacation by the FNC brass.
And as far as McQarthy is concerned, it is impossible to discredit him any more than has already been done, but the boy has done the impossible. I hope against hope that a few of the GQP representatives will get behind any Democratic movement to remove him from SOTH, post-haste.
It was a party in the WaPo comment section following this story last night.
I would have loved to be there the moment that Carlson and McCarthy had the sickening realization that the game was up, and they were now the targets. They set a trap and then fell into it.
