U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump nominee who threw out the 2023 federal prosecution against him in his classified documents case, is overseeing the grand jury based out of Fort Pierce in the Southern District of Florida.

Since when does any standing senator get to say who will be put in place in an empty slot? The governor of that state has the only say. And besides the chair is not empty. They are jumping the gun on this one.

Based on her ruling in Donnie’s original bastard law suit against the search of MaL (that all evidence gathered under the warrant be returned,) it seems to me that restricting the jury to dyed in the wool MAGA would be a way of auditioning for a higher appointment with this regime.

As for his replacement.
In Oklahoma, when a U.S. Senator retires or vacates their seat, the Governor appoints a replacement to fill the vacancy temporarily. According to state law, the appointee must be from the same political party as the predecessor (Google machine reply to prompt oklahoma process for replacing a retired senator ).
I doubt Oklahoma’s GQP governor will linger over appointing the replacement.

Stitt will take his marching orders, but the question is who will issue those orders? Will it be Donnie Two-scoops or will it be John Thune?
As to appointing one or another of Donnie Two-Scoops OK delegation sycophants to the seat, Gov. Stitt is then required to call a special election (both primary and general) to elect the replacement. Until the elected replacement is sworn in, the seat remains vacant.
In this instance, the 2026 OK primary is scheduled for 16 June. My guess (but it’s only a guess) is that they will leave the seat vacant until the next Congress is sworn in. OK’s election calendar has reserved dates to fill vacancies in State and Federal offices but the last such date has passed.

Given the way Johnson has tried to game filling House vacancies, I’d be surprised if Thune’ll leave a Senate seat vacant for a minute longer than he has to.
There’s folks there who could pass away quite suddenly.
But, then again, it is possible that the White House’s control in that part of Congress is slipping.

If justice and adherence to the law were operative, I would have four words for Mr Lewandowski: soap-on-a-rope. However, do recall that John Roberts and His Mental Midgets are apparently not at all in favor of anti-corruption laws. On the other hand, IIRC their opinions say that in order for a bribe to be a bribe the recipient has to ask for it.
It will be interesting in an academic sense to see how they thread this needle.

I was referring to the House vacancy that would result if Hern was appointed to the Senate. I have my doubts that Hern would accept the appointment, because apparently he would be ineligible to run for the seat.
