In An Escalation, House GOP Talks Of Defunding The Judiciary And Eliminating Courts

Originally published at: In An Escalation, House GOP Talks Of Defunding The Judiciary And Eliminating Courts - TPM – Talking Points Memo

We began hearing talk last week that House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) upcoming hearings on supposed “abuses” of judicial authority might serve as a placeholder for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) actually entertaining the idea of judicial impeachments (which he doesn’t have the votes for) before the House passes its big, beautiful budget bill…

GOP, then: “We are the party of Law and Order!”

GOP, now: “Law, huh! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing.”

Bondi Now Wants Crockett To Apologize To Elon

We already know what Jasmine Crockett has to say to FElon.

I hope Representative Crockett would have a similar response to Bondi. When did it become the job of the Attorney General of the United States to police language?

  1. Thank goodness Chuck Schumer caved so that they could keep the Judiciary funded and running. (/sarc)
  2. I wouldn’t be so sure that the Senate Dems wouldn’t agree to impeach Boasberg, if they got a verbal pinky-promise from the GOP to not gut the judiciary (which they would obviously go back on almost immediately).

First, Bondi’s always been a liar, and, to paraphrase a late famous Republican, “There she goes again!” Crockett explicitly said she did not advocate and does not want violence, but that’s not what the MAGA base wants to hear. Ergo…

Second, yes, the Congress does have the control over the Federal judiciary that its toads are threatening to execute. But, to paraphrase a recently noted lying Attorney General, “They should tread very carefully” lest they make of themselves indiceted co-conspirators. Not that they aren’t really already there.

“…before the House passes its big, beautiful budget bill next month.”

I get that it’s sarcastic but directly using their own deceptive lies in TPM news is playing directly into their hands. Call it what it really is or don’t describe it at all. It is their budget and the most atrocious billionaire tax break and racist destruction of democracy, the basic functioning of the federal government and human rights in the history of the country.

No Rogue Rulings Act

PFFT… The irony is strong here… this comes from the party of TRUMP.

Democrat Responds to Backlash After Calling Abbott ‘Governor Hot Wheels’
On Tuesday, Crockett posted on X, formerly Twitter, “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.”
She continued, “Literally, the next line I said was that he was a ‘Hot A** Mess,’ referencing his terrible policies. At no point did I mention or allude to his condition. So, I’m even more appalled that the very people who unequivocally support Trump—a man known for racially insensitive nicknames and mocking those with disabilities—are now outraged.”

Despite being a paraplegic in a wheelchair, Abbott is against the ADA and any sort of support for those with disabilities. Fortunately for me, I don’t live in TX.

As Attorney General, Greg Abbott contended that the State has immunity from its violations acts of the ADA. Private businesses, Texas cities and counties and even federal actions within Texas are all subject to the ADA. In other words, he does not mean that the ADA doesn’t apply in Texas. Rather, a person who wants to sue the State on grounds of discrimination because of disability could have their case dismissed in a court of law.

A precedent has been set for this practice. When he was Texas’ Attorney General, Abbott went to court to declare that Texas has sovereign immunity from the ADA. Abbott claimed he personally supports the ADA and was only doing his job as an attorney defending his client, the State of Texas. However, though no longer Attorney General, Abbott has stated that, as Governor, he will not support legislation to waive Texas’ sovereign immunity from the ADA

Case Summary

On August 17, 2021, Disability Rights Texas filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas challenging Governor Abbott’s issuing of Executive Order GA-38 (“GA-38”), which prohibited school districts from instituting mask mandates in response to COVID-19. In addition to Governor Abbott, defendants included the Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency (“TEA”) and the TEA. Disability Rights filed the suit on behalf of students with disabilities with compromised immune systems under the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“Section 504”).

This bunch is doing their damndest to police Thought! They really believe that they can “regulate” us libs into thinking just like they do. Does anyone know if that has ever worked in the history of the world?

A) in a sane world, SCOTUS would laugh that right out of court
B) Congress and the Constitution establish the Courts (Article 1, sect. 8)
C) the citizenry will not stand for this further step into dictatorship.
But keep on overstepping! Every move convinces a few more Trump voters that they made a really stupid mistake.
If the Rethugs in Congress had one iota of intelligence, fealty to the Oath that they took, understanding of the Constitution, loyalty to the US, patriotism, common sense…I could go on…They would be the ones pushing for impeachment of this entire “administration” before democracy is dead and gone from this country.

What a bunch of arrogant peckerheads. Not only do they want to ‘defund’ anyone who doesn’t agree with them but just this morning Ratcliffe screamed at the Intelligence committee for not asking questions about the ‘good’ things he does instead of ‘focusing’ on putting our soldiers in harms way. Patel screamed at a member when she asked what the FBI was doing and attempted to denigrate her. Goldberg released the emails…maybe they shouldn’t have called him a liar and a scum while accusing him of ‘hacking’ the chat when his name/addr is CLEARLY on the chain.
