IG Confirms State Dept Cancelled Award For Journalist Over Her Anti-Trump Tweets

The State Department Inspector General’s office (OIG) released a report on Friday that confirmed the department had rescinded an International Women of Courage (IWOC) award to Finnish reporter Jessikka Aro last year over her tweets that criticized President Donald Trump.

A) no one, and I mean no one in this maladministration knows fucking shit about vetting. Which in this case just means that they ended up smearing egg all over their own faces.

B) Aro tweeting that POS Trump “Trump constantly labels journalists as ‘enemy’ and ‘fake news.’ and a Trump supporter "made threatening calls to Boston Globe reporters and said he was shooting them in the head because they are ‘enemies of the people’ and ‘fake news.’ A search of the house found weapons and ammunition.” So reporting what POS Trump actually said, and what a Trumper actually said is “problematic”, in the real world that’s called reporting the facts.

Not as bad as when Newt Gringich gave an Entrepreneur of the Year Award to a strip joint operator… and yes that is what Newt does for a living.

His ego is so fragile…he must have a cadre of people who’s job is to look for anything they that looks unflattering and make it an issue. While deaths keep spiraling upward.

A journalist with personal opinions that she shares with others. Obviously a dangerous anarchist.

their claim that Aro had been offered the award by mistake, . . . the department’s controversial decision was in fact tied to the reporter’s posts about Trump on Twitter

There is no conflict between those two explanations. If Aro said anything negative about Trump then, by definition, offering the award was a mistake.

Melania the Slovenian rent a wife was standing there when Aro received the award. I wouldn’t be surprised if she pushed to have it rescinded.
For someone who came from a former Communist country where press freedom was quashed she obviously cant live up to Americas values of free speech and inquiry.

People with the instincts of real politicians don’t take criticism that way. If they’re strongly criticized in public they weigh their options and make the strongest critic their vice-presidential candidate because that’s the best choice and they’re grownups about things like that.

And the result of this petty action is Ms. Aro’s reputation and credentials are improved. She has a bright future.

And this is “criticism” in the mildest of terms. As @lastroth noted, the first “problematic” tweet was basically stating uncomfortable facts that were all in the public record. The second was just calling out an opportunity for local Finns to protest Trump and Putin at the same time. So petty to get upset by that.

“How dare she tweet truthful items about the news that are critical of Trump? We can’t have that!”

Good on the IG for making the truth of what happened known, and exposing more lies from the Trump administration. I’m sure they will be rewarded with their firing shortly.

It really does seem to be straight out of the Twilight Zone. Even people who are 4 or 5 levels removed from any direct connection to Trump are busily employed removing any defect that might possibly cross his myopic vision.
