The Trump administration is genuinely committed to finding as many sources of leverage as possible and using it to coerce various actors — mostly state and local governments but others too — into cooperating with the immigration crackdown. Part of this is substantial. Part of it is also atmospherics: the White House is trying to…
You know our troops will follow 5 Deferment Don into Hell.
Knowing he was the hero of the Vietnam War.
“…for all its talk of cracking down on antisemitism, it is itself stocked with figures who have ties to antisemites.”
Of course the regime is not opposed to antisemitism. It’s just that, currently, they hate Muslims more than they hate Jews. Unless of course said Muslims are the wealthy hereditary rulers of Middle Eastern countries, especiailly the ones who generously fund terrorism or make liberal use of bone saws, rather than Muslims who are, say, Palestinian infants in Gaza or the West Bank getting their limbs blown off…
It’s confusing, but it’s kind of like how the regime really really hates refugees unless they’re white Afrikaners from South Africa who are faking being refugees so they can come and make more money in the United States…
Bottom line, you just can’t tell the players without a scorecard. Or even then.
Does throw considerable doubt on whether it ever makes any sense at all to hate certain people because of their religion or ethnicity or what not, however. If you want what you do to make sense, that is. But this regime (nor humans in general, maybe) clearly does not want to.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Wednesday sidestepped a question about vaccines and whether he would choose to vaccinate his children today against a number of diseases, saying, “I don’t think people should be taking medical advice from me.”
Well, that’s odd, since he keeps giving medical advice and has been doing that on a regular basis for decades…and because he keeps making changes to the whole country’s health care setup that are highly correlated with medical advice he tends to give …
I just follow his advice on where to go swimming in DC.
So, when will thousands of innocent Americans be rounded up and put in “camps” like Dachau to later be sent to Libya and other African countries? And more sent to South America? Or just gassed like in Auschwitz?

So, he’ll do the right thing and resign?
and also signals that the White House remains willing to smash through various constitutional barriers in its quest to detain and deport.
“But why stop there?” asked the expansive, imperialist President.
I’m sure I never signed up for a course on “What It Feels Like to Be Part of a Rogue Nation,” but damned if I’m not in one. And I can’t find a way to withdraw.
A fool and his $$$
LOL. An “unfortunate” typo? or a random employee at the manufacturing site making the most of an opportunity?
back in high school, a friend of mine made an unfortunate typo when typing up the yearbook photo quotes. It just so happened to be the one that belonged to the class bully. Oops!!

Seeing Noem in her ICE Barbie getup makes me want to vomit.
She is the poster child Mean Girl.

An interesting article in the NYT:
A few say right out, “Yes.” Most are torn between Rose’s accomplishments on the field and the reasons to disqualify him. Tony La Russa comes closest to an outright “No.”
## Tony La Russa, Class of 2014
### Manager, 1979-2011, 2021-2022
In Pete’s case, the statistics are undeniable. But from being in Chicago with (Tom) Seaver, and once I got to St. Louis, with Stan (Musial) and Red (Schoendienst), Gibby (Bob Gibson) and (Lou) Brock, iconic, legendary Hall of Famers, they were very upset at Pete for a couple of reasons — one, he made the mistake, and two, he wasn’t honest about it, and three, they never really felt like he was contrite or ashamed by it or had a big regret until he wasn’t put in the Hall of Fame. Speaking for them, I can just convey their opinion, I know how upset they were to the point where they were very unforgiving.
There was always a big sign on the board in the clubhouse about gambling, and an official had to read the gambling issue to the team before the season started. It was a little tough to miss it.
Jim Kaat is kind of all over the place, but in a thoughtful way. This part of his reply struck me:
Before we go on live, I said, “I want to ask you a question. Did you ever bet on baseball?” He said, “You know we’ve been to the horse track,” and I knew he bet on football every Sunday afternoon. But he said, “I never bet on baseball.” I said, “Well, I want to ask you that because if you did — and I knew he had problems with the bookies — I said if you just admitted, “Hey, I had a problem,” baseball loves you, they want to forgive you. But he just would not admit it — and then later he did admit it and started signing (memorabilia) that said he bet on baseball. So he started to lose the respect of his teammates. That’s where he kind of shot himself in the foot.
But the thing with Pete with the Hall of Fame, I mentioned to Jane Clark the year that I got inducted and talked about the chances with Pete, my stance has always been there should be something in there to recognize Pete’s accomplishments and why he didn’t get inducted. And she said there are 31 examples of what Pete did during his career (in the museum). He has not been ignored. So it’s not like people could go through the Hall of Fame and say there’s nothing in there about Pete Rose. So he is being recognized. But he just never got the opportunity to get a formal induction.
When the going gets tough, strongman governments erase (or fudge).
We’ve seen this with Russia, following the invasion of Ukraine. As a result, reliable information about Russia’s economy (e.g. Rosstat) has disappeared or ceased to be released. Similarly, China’s National Bureau of Statistics has pulled back on its datasets with the trouble in the property sector, slowing growth and the trade war with the US. Well, the US is great at data tracking, that’s how government functions and makes prudent policy. Just not climate or economic policy.
I see the NYT has an editorial by a number of scholars of fascism who are leaving the country. I’m not a scholar of fascism, but you really didn’t need to be to see where this was all going. I beat them all to the punch two years ago and now live in a country with a rigorous public health system, including food inspectors, robust vaccine programs, and low cost, often free, meds.
Half the country really is just assorted mole people, mouth breathers, and proud village idiots whose only talent is grift . . .
what they got was a “Rump” watch due to an unfortunate typo on the watch face.
You can’t be sure where those hands have been.
I suppose this is snark.
However,
- Most of our military know the Vietnam War through history books only.
- It is not beyond Donald Trump to lie about such a thing with exactly that kind of assertion.
- It is not beyond Elon Musk to train his AI to make such an assertion.
- Many, particularly the younger crowd, research using AI only.
- Many Republicans live in a cult regardless.
Never underestimate the power of Big Brother.
