My mistakes are from assuming I would always have a secretary present to clean up my mess / all my bad!
If it looks like the Speaker of the House is headed for the Presidency, then the D’s could add insult to injury to Drumpf by making Hillary Clinton Speaker; there’s no requirement that the Speaker actually be a member of the House. Then Pelosi could be made Speaker when Clinton is elevated to the Presidency. I only suggest it because of the poetic justice of it; on the merits, I think Pelosi would be a much superior President to Clinton.

it seems like, among other things, a) there has to be an election or else there will be no house and b) [after being reelected the house still has to make her speaker again]*, which they did last time on the promise that it would be the last time. But I would love to see her as president!

Well, the Maginot Line DID hold! The problem with the Maginot Line was that it was not extended into Belgium, a French ally. (Of course the Belgians are involved somehow, of course they are…).
So, that, and the fact that the French government was shot full of Defeatists, is why the Maginot Line failed despite also succeeding.

The Speaker does not have to be a member of the House, so the new House could elect Biden speaker and under the which variouos scenarios, he becomes president and the House then re-elects Pelosi Speaker. Also, if the electoral vote is dodgy, the Congressional committee of the whole, where Democrats are in the majority which counts it can simply refuse to do so. Then the House refuses to cast its votes. On January 20,Trump’s term ends, the Presidency is vacant, and Speaker Biden takes office.
