‘If It’s Good Enough For Clinton’: McConnell Shrugs That Trial Is ‘Partisan Exercise’ | Talking Points Memo

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) tried to justify his position on witnesses in the Senate trial by asserting that the decision on whether or not to call them during President Bill Clinton’s impeachment was a “partisan exercise,” too.

I’ll bet he would claim that large cash campaign donations don’t influence lawmaker’s positions on issues.

He added that he and Schumer are at an impasse after meeting about the trial. McConnell wants to hear from Trump’s lawyers and the House impeachment managers before deciding whether to call witnesses.

In the running for the falsest false equivalence ever.

McConnell shrugged his chins and said: “Fair is whatever I say it is! And if you think that’s not fair, it’s not fair that you think it’s not fair. What could be fairer than that?”

Fuck you, #McMoscowMitchTurtleBrain.

Pretty sure he wants to get back to doing absolutely NOTHING in the Senate as soon as possible.

He’s not going to win this.

Except ramming through judges -lifetime appointments.

Christianity Today has a follow-up which condemns Trump’s amoral behavior. The authors are more than a bit squeamish about the unqualified support given to Trump by Evnagelicals. They like the judges but that’s about it.

A number of articles compare the Johnson impeachment to that of Trump.
The parallels are startling.

McConnell cannot believe that woman, Nancy somebody, is not afraid of him.

That’s why he’s doing PR. the more his mug is on the tv, the more we know he’s afraid of losing ground.

Yeah, Mitch, I don’t think this is serving your goals of getting all this overwith quickly.

And the more his ugly mug is on the TV and the PR starts to turn on him, and it will, he’s going to lose.
It’s long past time for mini docs on McConnell’s history in the Senate. Long past time.

Late: We can start with him being one of the first to use character assassination political campaign ads in the 1970s and work our way from there for three decades + of corrupt, self enriching, self empowering assholery. The country does need a detailed reminder.

Turn all the media attention on a history of Mitch, that will hurt Mitch and piss trump off with his lime light needs, break out a fight between the two, and we have ourselves a grand ol’ time.

“Look, we can’t do anything until the speaker sends the papers over,” he said. “So, everybody, enjoy the holidays.”

He’s shitting himself. He knows he’s losing this one.

Not really. We think he is, but the longer the Impeachment trial doesn;t happen, the further from the minds of voters it will be to the point of polling on it going Trump’s way. I hope I’m wrong.

The main word in the title of this article is:

“Shrugs”

Meaning, “The GOP Senate and I got no problems, so all you Dems (and pundits) go at it with the Gloom and Handwringing”

Too cute, and wrong, and stupid, because the GOP always projects the opposite of what they really are going through.
