If Biden’s Corporate Tax Offer Isn’t A Feint, Then It’s A Massive Concession

Kennedy won West Virginia, Carter won West Virginia, Clinton won West Virginia.

What did they have in common besides party affiliation?

They were men of deep spiritual conviction, nay, spiritual leaders of their generation.

I’m kidding. Have a nice weekend : - )

Funny, when you look at Joe Manchin he just doesn’t seem like a guy who smokes meth 12 hours a day, but if he believes in these Republican unicorns, he must be.

The President spoke to Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Chairman Peter DeFazio today.

Senator Capito conveyed to the President a new offer from her group, which consisted of an about $50 billion increase in spending across a number of infrastructure programs. The President expressed his gratitude for her effort and goodwill but also indicated that the current offer did not meet his objectives to grow the economy, tackle the climate crisis, and create new jobs. He indicated to Senator Capito that he would continue to engage a number of Senators in both parties in the hopes of achieving a more substantial package. They agreed to speak again on Monday.

Dems would put it up for a vote - RepubliQans would filibuster - Manchin would vote FOR the bill but it would fail to overcome the filibuster.

You’d think the republicans are in the majority by how they are calling the shots. Doesn’t help that Manchin has sold out his party thus removing any bargaining power they have.

Can’t do anything without them, can’t do anything with them.

Put the bill with the concessions on the floor for a vote, and when Republicans filibuster it…do the reconciliation bill and dare Manchin to vote no.

The economy added 560,000 jobs in May. And Biden’s approval rating is north of 50%. Are we sure an infrastructure bill is even necessary at this point?

It is necessary because…it’s necessary for real not in political terms

Then I guess the answer is to win Senate seats elsewhere, because West Virginia–and by extension, Joe Manchin–are all but lost causes. I appreciate that Manchin votes with the Democrats most of the time, but the voting rights bill in particular seems more important to me than preserving the filibuster and the forlorn hope of bipartisanship.

I’m hoping to make them irrelevant by helping to elect more Democrats in other States.

I don’t want to focus on wishing Manchin or Sinema were more liberal, because I’m not sure we can get more liberal people elected in WV and AZ.

Gen. Manchin and Lt. Sinema: “We had to destroy the village Democracy in order to save it!”

What this means is that because of the Senate filibuster (a minority veto - or effectively, minority rule), we’re all the GOP’s bitch rn. I see no evidence - for whatever reason - that Manchin will cave. I agree that Biden should put the whole thing up for a vote and let it fail, then all the Dems run on the Republican’s obstructionism next year and hope we retain the seats in GA and AZ and win PA and WI. Giving in would make 2022 like 2010 on steroids (or to be more accurate, crack).

Republicans for years have used the 60 vote rule to lie about supporting things, such as repealing Obamacare, that in fact didn’t even have 50 Republicans in favor.

Maybe Manchin just doesn’t support the legislation.

Biden could say that Mexico will pay for it, and Republicans still wouldn’t budge. Republicans WILL NOT accept ANYTHING proposed by a Democrat. End of story. What Biden is doing now is exposing Republican’s abandonment of every single American who isn’t a billionaire. This gives him ample ammunition to rightfully say “I gave them dozens and dozens of chances, and they said no, every single time.” And honestly, proposing a number well below the number advocated by Manchin could very well be to bring him on board if they can eventually agree on a reasonable package. They can easily do this if Manchin and Sinema are on board. I suspect this proposal by Biden is toward that effort.

We had a good chance in Maine but we failed. We should blame ourselves, not Joe Manchin.

I don’t live in Maine. I accept no blame for those people being too fucking stupid to do the right thing. My State has contributed two Democratic Senate seats, we did our part.

My money’s on Biden knowing what he’s doing. There’s no way Republicans are going to agree to anything, he’s backing them into a corner to either put up or shut up. That said I am SO TIRED of hearing Democrats complain they can’t do anything because the Republicans won’t allow it.

Who are these Mainers that voted for Joe Biden and Susan Collins? I mean really people! What the hell…
