ICE and War Funding Can Now Become the Latest Excuse to Gut the Social Safety Net

Congressional Republicans have been musing about the possibility of a second reconciliation package for some time now. The conversations picked up recently after Senate Republicans tried to convince President Donald Trump to drop his objections on a possible Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding deal, promising the president that they will pass the SAVE America…

Republicans are much better at waging war against the American people than they are at waging war against Iran.

Implementing Starve the Beast.

I really wish more people knew our history and how stuff today is a consequence of things Republicans began doing 50 years ago.

Yes, they want to make those cuts. But I think they’re just hoping Dems bite and consider it part of the negotiation.

Gut safety net and similar: If he fffed with, say, Medicare, my wife and I would be in deep doodoo. Today, my wife got a pacemaker implant. She’s fine hours later.
Depending on the outcome of some tests, I might need some heart surgery. Concerned? You bet. Nothing I can do about it except to hold until maybe taking back the House which would allow us to at least throw a turd into his punch bowl.

For a few, there is a lot of profit in war, bad government, firing workers and cutting benefits. For Trump, a sadistic bully, it is just plain fun. It is important to eliminate concepts of honesty, integrity, compassion, fairness, and good faith when dealing with MAGA. Nixon was the prototype and has only gotten more extreme with time.

A lot of problems would be solved with union wages and benefits, and enforcement of anti-monopoly regulation. As a pipe dream, I would add campaign finance and Supreme Court reform, plus anti-gerrymander legislation. And do not touch Social Security and Medicare or Public Education.

This is a point in the sermon I preach over and over.
Native-born Americans know nothing or next to nothing about our 20th C political history. For ex, I’ve met people who think SS and Medicare have always been with us. They just don’t know things and we’re all getting screwed as a result.
