How Will DOJ Backtrack Its Own Claims About Census Deadline? | Talking Points Memo

You’re asking a serious question about an Administration whose contempt for law is unprecedented.

Equally unprecedented is a (Republican) Senate that is, well, to put it nicely, highly compliant.

And also unprecedented is the fact of a hack partisan (Republican) Supreme Court.

The only institution that (one would like to think) is uncompromised is the (Democratic) House – and that’s only half of Congress and, well, you’ve seen as well as I have what’s happening there.

Well, but just remember that during the campaign Trump repeatedly and loudly said that he was going to ban muslims, but for John Roberts it didn’t matter, he took the word from the DOJ that the ban was about some BS reason, nothing to do with religion.

[sorry ass]

  1. Lame, pitiful, without taste

  2. Stubborn, without relief from his/her own point of view

You cheated, you lied
You said that you love me

so when a lawyer is found to be lying in front of the courts, are they disbarred? or fined? or jailed? what is the punishment? Will anyone be punished? If I lied before the court would I be punished?

To me this is the real Constitutional Crisis that has been anticipated by the press for so long.

This may come down to whether officials at the Census Bureau–career civil servants, whose jobs are protected–will risk contempt-of-court citations that might involve daily fines.

IOW, it’s Congress’ call, not the the POTUS’

Yeah, more thought it would be coming with the Tax Returns or Deutsche Bank cases, with Trump still refusing to comply after a Supreme Court defeat.

But that was because nobody thought that the Supremes were going to turn him down on the census question. And they weren’t, until that whole racist bit leaked at the last minute.

Pelosi will soon schedule a vote to hold Barr and Ross in contempt and refer to the DC DA for criminal charges.

Do it this week, Madame Speaker.

It’s amazing to me that the courts don’t just issue a parental smack down on trump personally. It seems obvious the House democrats refuse to as well. This man justv efuses to listen to reality. The census is at the printers.

I think Unser Drumpenfuhrer may have blown right through many of his records for lying in his environmental speech yesterday, described by one law professor as a “true 1984 moment.” It was a jaw dropping spectacle even for him.

I think there will be another constitutional crisis with each case working its way thru the courts. The census question just happens to be the first.

True. This one will be a good read, though, on just how far Trump is willing to go.

He hasn’t jumped off the ledge yet into full defiance, so far it’s just bluster and playing around the edges.

So something is restraining him, even if only a little bit.

FWIW, printing the 2010 forms didn’t start until 7/23/2009. Until I see proof of printed forms this time around, I’m assuming nothing’s happening on that front.

Back when Trump was elected I thought “This is going to be epic shitshow.” And here we are in season 3, epsiode 899.

Fair enough and point taken.
With trump we should assume nothing.

By their words they believe no deadline is firm if you throw enough money at someone. And trump doesn’t care about using our money wisely. I’m sure “it’ll be worth it” is being thrown around a lot.

So I think that the court should let the case proceed on the merits (and rule against the govt yet again)

after

Francisco gives up his law license and reports to federal prison to serve a term for making knowingly false filings before the court and Barr gives up his law license for knowingly authorizing him to do so.
