This is just what we need, unidentified federal cops in rental cars driving around cities all over the country, picking up anyone they think looks suspicious without even letting the city officials know they are there and what they are doing. That could result in a firefight between these agents and the local cops or civilians defending themselves from being abducted. Giving it a name doesn’t help.
The DOJ in the role of PR prop. Steve Bennen is right, the GOP has abandoned actual policy and governance for public relations as its primary function. The ultimate culmination of identity politics and the culture wars.
Complete with right wing white supremacist aryan brotherhood false flag instigators, as reported in KC, Minneapolis, Richmond. LOCK BARR UP! LOCK THEM ALL UP!
I guess when you don’t CARE about Democracy or anything remotely like it that this ‘rollout’ makes sense. The Despot-in-Chief and his minions ‘think’ something up, notify the Federal officers they are going to use, send a form letter that in no way explains WTF you are doing and then move in. I’m not so sure they think ‘sowing mass confusion’ is a bad thing.
There’s no damn confusion about this. Trump wants to create a situation where peaceful protesters are attacked as if they’re dangerous, and then present himself as the protector to his fearful minions and the rest of us, who he imagines are as stupid as him. He’s always presented himself that way, but now he’s desperate. It’s not confusing. It’s really very simple.
Operation Legend? Obviously legends in their own minds.
You have a bunch of chummy white guys without masks who have decided to descend on cities to show how federal law enforcement is needed to get the job (whatever it is) done. All done without consulting local authorities. Do they really think this will divert attention from Trump’s refusal to get involved in providing guidance and support to states for fighting the virus.
Not to mention the lack of response to Russia’s bounty on American troops.
And I doubt that most people like the idea of plainclothes or camouflage officers seizing people off the streets and throwing them into unmarked vans. That stinks of authoritarian regimes.
