After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, something surprising happened: Donald Trump went mostly silent on the topic.

Hungary hasn’t done dick since goulash.

Follow Putin’s money to the GOP coffers, then indict them for being unregistered agents.

Partly?

More like against liberalism in the democratic sense, eh? Birds of a feather and all that.

Hey I thought even deeper down Republicans were proponents of fiscally responsible actions. Throwing one’s support behind a a guy that had to open up his prisons to get more fighters doesn’t show that he runs a well organized machine there. Realizing that we’re actually giving Ukraine our oldest stock first, which means we making newer stuff for ourselves…not to mention that the US hasn’t had to send any of our own personnel to Ukraine.
Maybe all those in Heritage’s pocket should resign their seats and go volunteer in Russia.

You simply could not find a more perfect way to ensure that the world sees the United States as an unreliable, useless bullshitter of a country that talks big and does nothing, than pulling aid to Ukraine. All this will do is drive every country into the arms of Russia or China. I hope voters wake the fuck up and see just how much Republicans are shitting on this country’s standing around the world. Laughed at? Fuck, they won’t waste the time. The world will just move on without us, and we won’t have a say in what happens anymore. I hope Johnson is enjoying sucking off Putin because Uncle Vlad sure as hell is.

GOP, the party of Putin. It would be hard to even consider this if there were any consistent core values left in the party (other than power), but here we are.

The GOP foreign policy position is reprehensible but at least consistent. They support war crimes and human rights violations by Russia, Israel, and on the Mexican border.

Except Tucker Carlson opposing aid to Israel, haven’t heard about that before.

“now-debunked Steele Dossier” IIRC it’s still an open question?

I think the 180 degree shift of the GOP makes a lot more sense if we accept that a big part of the GOP’s foreign policy hawkishness during the Cold War had in fact mostly DOMESTIC objectives: demonizing Democrats as quasi-treasonous and making any progressive policies look like a Communist trap (as Reagan did to Medicare in the 60s). The GOP was never averse to fascism (Pinochet et al.) or corruption. Now that Russia is a model of right wing authoritarianism, willing to parrot GOP culture war slogans and to corruptly assist the GOP and harm Democrats, what’s not to love about Putin? The GOP was ripe for the picking and Putin (an adept of judo) had all the right moves to make good on this.

Remember when the Republicans would lambaste the Democrats for being in bed with the Russians?

All we, the GOP, want for Christmas is Putin’s blessing and his money.

He told TPM that unrealistic expectations around what Ukraine could achieve in its counteroffensive and a lack of clear goals set by the Biden Administration had all contributed to Congress’ shift, and that, now, House Republicans remained apparently immovable in their opposition.

“I wish they would understand that not supporting this assistance will amount to a victory for Putin,” he said.

Oh, House Republicans know that and it’s their desired outcome. The only question is why the media isn’t hammering them day in and day out for their clear support of Putin and his invasion of Ukraine.

And the great irony that when cable news decided to assign colors to Democrats and Republicans for their election night maps, they specifically decided against giving red to Democrats because of the implication that Democrats were “commies.” Now look. Republicans actually are more in bed with the Russians than even the most deluled Communist Party member in the 1930s or 40s ever was.

yeah - it was ‘the lack of clear goals set by the Biden administration’ that concerned Republicans. Because they care so much about clear goals and well executed plans as demonstrated by 45*.
Their betrayal of Ukraine and what the war stands for is appalling.

“I wish they would understand that not supporting this assistance will amount to a victory for Putin,” he (Kramer) said

It’s pretty clear: they are pro-Putin and they want him to win. Also sounds like this new generation of conservatives at Heritage are a bunch of feral Trumpers.

It seems the GQP was envious of all the site seeing done by fellow travelers.
Oh, and of the guide’s free spending habits.

Since there’s very little doubt that pulling US support makes Russia the odds on favorite to win AND that that’s the outcome Putin clearly wants (along with unconditional Ukrainian surrender, a goal from which he has not wavered) it doesn’t seem like it’d take that much to connect A & B and identify the GQP as Russia’s allies.

Waiting for voters to “wake the fuck up” is akin to waiting for Godot to show.
