Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has been, for months, stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the SAVE America Act — and he’s about to get squeezed harder. The legislation claims to address the purported problem of noncitizens voting in federal elections. It is, of course, already illegal for…
Of course there is also the question of what the Senators choose to talk about during the filibuster. A full reading of the Epstein file would be an interesting way to go and provides a lot of material and much talking time.
The SAVE Act “MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD.”
Democrats put a bill out there calling for War on Iraq and watch Trump squrim.
Democrats need to counter with “We will read the Epstein Files outloud as our filibuster.” Hell, they should do this anyways.
It now appears that the two New York City bomb throwers, the Old Dominion University and Detroit synagogue murderers were all sunni islamic. As a behavioral historian, I always look for root causes and motives. I wonder whether the regimen of fasting causes susceptibility to irritability, anger, hate, and murderous violence, rather than self-reflection. Or is it the promise of increased rewards and hoors in jannat during this month driving the terrorism and barbaric violence against innocents?
Mike Lee, R Utah. Isn’t Utah a state with a high percentage of mail-in voting?
Isn’t it interesting no one talks much about the faith of Christian terrorists and what about Christianity might have lead them there?
The Bible never mentions abortion and values a fetus as less than an adult. Nonetheless the anti- abortion terrorists are notoriously driven by their version of Christianity.
Trump’s distractions at the moment are incredibly successful. He has not just dragged the world into a needless war, but precipitated a global recession. Not just an oil shock, but disruption at 600 million or so farms around the world. The Gulf ships 30% of the global supply of urea, a major ingredient in fertilizer. With the physical supply stranded, the price has gone from $350 a ton to $600 a ton. Depending on planting seasons, there could be mild to serious disruptions to farmers. Disruption means less food production and increased precarity. The Arab Spring came out of food supply issues, especially drought in Ukraine, Russia and to a lesser extent Syria. (Ground-zero of the Arab Spring was the bank repossession of a 3-hectare plot of the sick uncle of Mohammed Bouazizi, a Tunisian fruit vendor harassed by the police. Bouazizi’s life had become so difficult that he resorted to self-immolation, capturing the angst of poor Arabs everywhere, fueling the rise of ISIS and causing government collapses in the region.) It is not a stretch that recession will test the patience of poor people and the crowd-control abilities of many countries. Add to that exacerbation of already dreadful groundwater abuse in the Middle East with the loss of desalinization plants. Hopefully, Trump and his merry band of war profiteers will have time to enjoy their windfall wealth before the public catches on.
“Whatever you do,” cried Brer Rabbit, “Don’t throw me into the briar patch”
The thing about jihadis is that they are relentless, which is why it’s often hard to distinguish Republicans from Hizbullah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and everyone’s other favorite, the Taliban.
Clearly, if Tune [sic, his name really ought to Dissonance, but I digress] goes with the talking filibuster no legislation is coming to his desk for him to sign. It’s an idle threat under the circumstances.
With an actual, quasi-capable, semi-competent President (e.g. Bush fils) I would not have to ask this, but it is DonOLD Drumpf we’re talking about. He is aware that the Defense supplemental that retrospectively funds his adventure in Iran is a bill that isn’t his voter suppression act, isn’t he?
Obviously there’s no difference.
Could they read snd discuss Jack Smith’s reports also, I’d think that talking about Trump’s betrayal of our country to Putin alongside his betrayal of young women to that disgusting bunch of perverted monsters might illuminate how repulsive and evil Trump truly is.
GOP: Home of the Whopper!
Allow me to proffer another possibility.
A high-powered medium-wave radio transmitter popped up in Iran after the iDJiT started his War-of-Uncertain-Goals. It is a member of a class of transmitters called Numbers Stations: its transmissions consist of a voice reciting numbers.
Presumably these numbers are tied to a one-time pad and someone in the Iranian intelligence apparatus is sending instructions to sleeper agents, or they want the West to think they are.
If you object, “But these are Sunni, not Shi’a”, my rejoinder is that using sleeper agents who openly belong to an identifiable minority tied to you is a good way to reduce the population that counter-intel and counter-terrorism operations have to watch. Intelligence services have known this for a very long time. Israeli intelligence, for example, used to have a strict policy to not recruit Jewish agents anywhere. They look instead for sympathizers with their own grievances against the host country.
Oh boy, would this be fun. Giving the floor to his opposition to call out how this disenfranchises women who changed their name to their husbands, poor and middle class who do not have passports and may not have easy access to other documents (these includes huge swaths of “Red” America, the same people he screwed on Medicaid changes).
Oh there is so much we could talk about!!
Yes, it is. What’s your point? If your point is logical consistency, the GQP is the wrong place to look.
ETA: About 12% of the registered voters cast their ballot in person in 2024. Turnout in UT in 2024 was about 84%, so about 85% of the vote was cast by mail.
Trump wants to largely prohibit mail-in voting, with some exceptions,
…his voting from his bathroom.
