I’ve never been a fan of lawsuits or “punishment” for oil companies. I buy their products. We all do to one extent or another. If you own a car or heat your home with natural gas you are causing the problem. If you travel extensively, you are causing the problem. If you want me to change my behavior, you’ll have to make it prohibitively expensive. If you do that without providing an alternative, you will impoverish me. It really is a problem with no solution. Whatever the impact of climate change, there is nothing we can do to stop it. All of us are responsible for it. Putting oil companies out of business to pay for the flooding of coastal areas seems like a bad idea to me as long as there is no alternative. And there isn’t. Not yet anyway.
