How Oil Companies Could End Up Footing Bill For Climate Disasters

This is the most important climate-related news I’ve read in many years.

Fossil fuel giants need to pay for the second- and third- order disasters as well as the floods and wildfires themselves. For example, property insurance is becoming prohibitively expensive, if it is even available, in my state of California and elsewhere. (Democratic) Legislators are currently weighing subsidies for homeowner insurance. This is exactly the wrong approach.

Don’t stick taxpayers with all these bills. The fossil fuel companies and investors have names and addresses, and they need to be made to pay.

Will this cause the price of fossil fuels to increase? Damn right. They need to reflect their disastrous externalities.
