A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
The big news last evening, first reported by ABC News and then duplicated by every major news outlet, was that Special Counsel Jack Smith has subpoenaed former Vice President Mike Pence as part of his investigation into the 2020 election subversion scheme.
IANAL, but, I’m pretty sure that when you call Mike Pence in to testify to the Grand Jury, it’s because you’re finishing up your work on that particular investigation, and you’re trying to make an impression on the Jury just ahead of the vote. I mean, why bother calling him, at all, if you weren’t going for a true bill?
This is yet another excellent day to wake up and realize that you weren’t anywhere near the rolling crime scene that was the Trump Administration.
How could anyone think Anna Luna could be something other that this WYSIWYG person she professes and appears to be in her first Congressional acting role?
Start here.
Then you can go after the trickier Chump felonies.
Some good under-oath testimony from Pence added to docs and evidence already extant could seal the deal on this statute:
Although the president and vice president are immune to the ordinary Hatch Act prohibitions on use of public office for political purposes, there is a separate provision (18 U.S.C. § 610) under which it is a crime for any person to ‘intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce … any employee of the Federal Government … to engage in any political activity.’ Violations are punishable by up to three years in prison
===
Pence isn’t the only person Chump coerced or attempted to coerce.
But with Pence it was done directly in plain language with witnesses. Sure he tried to work in some mob-boss-speak but this one is easy compared to so much of Chump’s weasel-words and shifty language. Doesn’t take much of a judgement call about ‘what was he really thinking’.
This information would not leak from this watertight special counsel. Not unless Jack wanted it to… This is a tactic by the special counsel. Hopefully this is not just a stroke-off on us. Hopefully things will liven up soon.
But then she found Jay-Zuss who led her to Turning Pointless and all that wonderful Wingnut Welfare Money from Koch, Mercer, Uihlein and the Publix heirless…
In the rolling hills of Amish country,
Where buggies roll and church bells sound,
A dark secret lies beneath the beauty,
That tears the hearts of all around.
The puppies, born into cruel captivity,
In crowded cages, stacked high with no end,
Their cries for love and comfort go unheard,
As they suffer day after endless day.
Their mothers, too, are trapped in this misery,
Their bodies spent, their spirits broken and torn,
As they’re forced to breed again and again,
With no rest and no love since they were born.
The Amish, known for simple, honest ways,
Have turned a blind eye to this evil trade,
But the world is waking up to their dark days,
And the cries of the innocent can no longer fade.
So let us raise our voices, and make a stand,
For the innocent creatures trapped in these mills,
Let us fight for their freedom, and lend a hand,
Until the day when their suffering finally stills.
Brett Favre Pulls A Trump, Sues Mississippi State Auditor | Crooks and Liars
The lawsuit against Auditor Shad White says the Republican “has carried out an outrageous media campaign of malicious and false accusations against Brett Favre — the Hall of Fame quarterback and native son of Mississippi — in a brazen attempt to leverage the media attention generated by Favre’s celebrity to further his own political career.”
In a separate lawsuit against former NFL player Shannon Sharpe, Favre said Sharpe made “egregiously false” statements about him on the Fox Sports talk show “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” including that Favre “stole money from people that really needed money.”
And in another lawsuit against retired NFL player Pat McAfee, Favre said McAfee had used “outrageous falsehoods” that included calling Favre a “thief” who was “stealing from poor people in Mississippi.”
If I’m sitting on this jury, I’m wondering why he paid back the money that he allegedly didn’t take.
