How Big Will The Big Lie Be? - TPM – Talking Points Memo

After getting sued and paying out a massive settlement to avoid a trial over it’s coverage of the last presidential election, Fox News is inserting itself into the 2024 narrative right off the bat by hosting tonight’s first GOP primary debate — a forum that will guarantee the network plenty of eyeballs and plenty of ad dollars.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1466894

“I think that people understand the facts of what happened,” she said. “What I don’t want is to spend the whole evening kind of rehashing that. I think people are looking forward, and I think they’re much more concerned with what’s happening in their own lives.”

The elephants in the room are never going to be able to ignore the elephant in the room, especially Chris Christie.

My guess it Chris Christie will bring it up.

That is I think the question of the 2020 election, while everyone especially FOX will try to not discuss, will be discussed because it is beneficial to some of those on stage to discuss it.

The Post yesterday said the debate could be a redemption moment for Fox. Fat chance.

Here are the only questions worth asking:

  1. Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, right?

1A. No, I know “he’s the president” (the usual dodge). But he’s president because he won the election, right?

  1. What could Donald Trump do to lose your support?

2A. Given that you’re all bending the knee to Donald Trump and won’t even answer the question of what he could do to lose your support (except maybe Chris Christie), what are you all even doing here?

You know? There are countries where asking the wrong question might lead to an “accidental” plane crash. So, the real question becomes: Is the United States one of those countries?

“I think that people understand the facts of what happened,” she said. (Translation: Think what you will, I’m not going to traffic in facts, to which I know a substantial portion of you are allergic.) “What I don’t want is to spend the whole evening kind of rehashing that. (Facts and evidence? I don’t need no stinking’ facts or evidence, I’ve got Fox/Trump’s talking points.) I think people are looking forward, and I think they’re much more concerned with what’s happening in their own lives. (in other words, I recognize this to be a sideshow, a carnival to amuse and distract the mindless MAGA masses.)”

“I think that people understand the facts of what happened,” she said.

Um, no. No, they don’t. Particularly not your viewers.

This might turn out to be the debate that wasn’t.

I have a feeling Trump is going to speak his threats through Carlson as a way to defy the prohibition on witness tampering placed on him by state and federal judges.

Why on earth would anyone kill him when the possibility of seeing him in jail is so tantalizingly close?

Debate? I think not. It will be front-loaded with canned spontaneous takedowns of everyone against everyone.

You’re assuming that “they” will be non-Trumpers. I suspect there are plenty of Trump wanna-bes that would benefit from a martyred TDIFFG.

Translation: Even if he wasn’t on that plane, you won’t be seein’ Yevy no more.
