House Will Not Hold Full Vote On Impeachment Inquiry

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will not hold a full House vote on the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, according to multiple reports on Tuesday evening.

For the nancynabobs among us:

There is no requirement or precedent for holding a House vote before commencing an impeachment inquiry. The inquiry happens because the speaker says so. There is a historical practice of holding a House vote to grant the committee performing the impeachment inquiry subpoena power. That vote is now not needed due to standing committees already having subpoena power by existing House rule.

Legally and Constitutionally they don’t need to vote on the impeachment inquiry. I want them to call Trump’s bluff. Thrown Rudy’s ass in jail if he fails to show up.

Also, I think Pelosi is making the right choice here. Holding a House vote before the vote to impeach is simple appeasement of bullshit that will result in months of chasing moving goalposts. If the GOP really believes their argument they can take it to court, and lose.

This coincides with what I have found in my research.
As requirements are not an issue, the only outstanding questions are political.
In that respect, I have little doubt that Pelosi and Schiff are right in depriving the Reactionaries of a list of targets in purple states.

They’ll still get that list if a vote on impeachment happens, but remember that nixon resigned before that vote took place.

That’s where I’m at with it. Also, start levying fines. $100,000 a day for noncompliance. It’s not like these people can’t afford it.

Yep. I doubt Rudy can afford the sustained charge, so it’ll make the RNC put their money where their mouth is.
No, I can’t for a moment imagine Donnie pitching in.

merely the fact that Donnie Moscow says he might be inclined to support the inquiry should they take a vote tells me they should NFW take a vote.

Good…on the one hand this would push Trump and company to come up with some other excuse not to comply, showing their hypocrisy even more, on the other it would just be playing a game. Legally, they have the right to pursue impeachment and subpoena people now, so there’s no reason for a vote. When they start putting together the public hearings and laying out the evidence, and it’s clear that Trump and company did very bad things that they can explain to America, that may be the time for a show vote, if only to pin the Republicans down as defending the atrocious behavior.

Well, I had thought there was an impeachment inquiry in process already. Shows ya what I know. Apparently trump hasta actually shoot someone on 5th ave as he said for people to realize that he needs to be gone.

seriously. when mcconnell allows the senate to vote on bills that the house has passed, maybe pelosi would reconsider. mitch would be showing that the GOPs offer is in good faith…or not. start with gun control and background checks mitch.
