House Takes Step Towards Impeachment With Mueller Doc Demand | Talking Points Memo

House Democrats are investigating whether to impeach President Trump, according to a Friday petition for a D.C. federal judge to release grand jury information from the investigation of former special counsel Robert Mueller.

“This Committee is conducting an investigation to determine whether to recommend articles of impeachment,” the filing reads.

Good news for a Friday afternoon!

I’m really liking this. Perhaps they sensed my impatience and frustration.

Slow and Steady wins. Going off half-cocked may feel good, but it loses most of the time.

This is not a “swipe-left” situation, it is dead serious and you need dead serious EVIDENCE before pulling the trigger on Impeachment.

May as well get all the Court Challenges out of the way now, BEFORE the Impeachment Inquiry so once we get around to it (you have over 14 months until the Democratic Convention) Impeachment can move along without endless court maneuvering by the White House.

I’m just gonna go cue up the “Hallelujah” chorus now. This is the legal move we need, by gum!

I guess we now know how Pelosi and Nadler’s conversation went.

Why is this not the featured story? Why am I supposed to care that a 3rd House 'pub has announced retirement?

SMDH…

Agreed @khaaannn - the foundation has been carefully laid and now the visible part of the building is going up.

I hope this means we can focus on forming a unified front now? Hmmmmmmm?

I could be wrong, but I thought there’s an algorithm that pushes the stories around based on clicks, etc.

Full-cocked is the only way to go off. Nobody likes a half-chubby. Nobody.

Well yours, or mine. Or both. Perhaps.

This is one of the best Fridays imaginable.

Absolutely. No other explanation required!

I don’t think I want to know anything more about that particular clip.

In the filing, House Democrats said that in order to ensure that President Trump is held accountable in the wake of the Mueller report, the House must have the necessary information to “consider whether to exercise its full Article I powers, including a constitutional power of the utmost gravity—approval of articles of impeachment.”
“Here, as in Haldeman , a specially appointed prosecutor has produced extensive evidence of misconduct by a sitting President,” House Democrats write. “And here, as in Haldeman , the Department has adopted the view that a sitting President cannot be indicted—while the specially appointed prosecutor has acknowledged the importance of Congress’s own ‘constitutional processes for addressing presidential misconduct.’”

Perhaps let’s add this language as an addendum to all the other petitions and briefs in all the other cases currently making their way through the courts.

Game on.

Well, to state the obvious - multiple opponents withdrawing before the fight starts would indicate that they’re collectively not that confident of victory and are looking for an out. This plays well against the “Dems in Disarray” message in the MSM and the “It’s all Pelosi’s fault when the Republicans do something bad” message that plays on an endless loop at sites like this one. Maybe we’re not quite so lost as some people think?

Also, it’s not the top slot, but this story is currently top left on the TPM homepage. I wouldn’t mind they do something like move up articles based on hits (a la reddit) but first I’d like to see them just clear some of the most egregious bugs introduced with this last “upgrade”. So for now, we’ll suck it up and smile… :persevere:

I’m pretty sure we’ll all consider it loads of fun when we are bathing in the proverbial blood of our would-be overlords.
