The House is back to a will they/won’t they situation, trying to determine whether the chamber can pass both the bipartisan infrastructure and reconciliation bills by the end of this week.
would someone please explain to me why the House doesn’t just pass a single bill containing all the provisions they want passed, and send it back to the Senate?
There is ZERO good reason to split Biden’s original proposal into two bills if the ORIGINAL deal is not in play. And that original deal was supposedly that there would be 50 (plus 1) democratic votes for the reconciliation package in exchange for letting Manchin and Sinema claim that they negotiated a bipartisan ‘road and bridges’ deal.
Now, hold up there. I think the results of Virginia clearly show we need to sit here in the dark for a while and take a breather. Why the rush to illuminate the room? I’ve spoken to colleagues on the other side of the aisle, and they feel there’s a good shot we might be able to find a bipartisan solution to the darkness issue, a market based solution for the good of the country. Oh, how I mourn the days when that kind of thinking was the norm.
I will not agree to turning on anything until my questions on the longterm effects of light exposure are answered, including the specific increased cancer risk five years down the road.
That is all. There will be no questions. I hope this sheds some light on my current thinking about the lighting situation.
They’re currently arguing whether ‘Up’ should be ‘On’ or ‘Off’. Once they get that sorted out, there’s just the last question about the correct way to mount the toilet paper rolls and they’re done!
heh heh thanks for your illuminating commentary. It’s appreciated.
(((waits for Manchin/Sinema to see the light)))
I’m a resident of Arizona. I have emailed Sinema several times and gotten just one canned response that was worthless. I used to trade snail mail paper letters with Mo Udall when he was around. Actual dictated letters to me. We had a lively and frequent correspondence and I miss that. He listened. As did John McCain. Sinema and Martha McSally are cut from the same “I don’t give a shit about you” cloth. Sinema even wore a ring that said “fuck off” and she posted that image herownself. It got the message across clearly. I cannot in good conscience vote for her.
What if Manchin says he won’t commit to supporting or voting for the BBB until the Infrastructure bill is passed? I know Progressives are committed to voting for both at the same time but if push comes to shove, who backs down first?
Look at it this way darr, we just needed her for the Senate Organizing stuff, we got Chuck, we used her, like so many people in her life undoubtedly have, any additional votes we get from her is just gravy.
So what would happen if her or Manchin, or both, decided to caucus with the treason party? I mena, wouldn’t the Senate have to vote to re-organize, presumably to elect new Majority and Minority Leaders right? So wouldn’t the current Leader have to call that to a vote, wouldn’t that be subject to a filibuster? Would the Chair even need to recognize any attempt to start such a re-organization?
Couldn’t Chuck just tell McConnell to fuck off, and remain as Leader until further notice? Just thinking outside the box. If McConnell were in the same situation and could do it he would, sometimes extraordinary times require extraordinary actions!
This is what we got when trump descended that escalator at trump tower, announced his candidacy and denounced Mexicans calling them rapists thereby dragging us into his personal alternate bubble universe. Myself I’d prefer to visit the universe version where Hillary won and democrats behave like an actual governing group and not a bunch of “preening for the camera” fucking narcissists who fold and run when the lights are turned on.
Makes perfect sense the “down” on a light switch would be “off”. But my wonderfully skilled step-son who is an electrician sometimes has other ideas, like leaving the house power on while installing a ceiling fan and nearly killing me as I attempted to install the wall switch. He did not let me know the power was on.
