Honestly couldn’t find a comprehensive tracking of the actual announcements from last term (rather than the actual end total, which was available easily) and wanted to get a good perspective and see what the pace is, so I took 20 minutes to compile this.
I think it was important to exclude those who ran for the Senate, because if anything that’s running closer to Trump than away from him, like I think the ones who ran for governor did. Same with Pompeo, Mulvaney, et al, naturally.
Every other reason for leaving I included, though I was hesitant on Sam Johnson, since he was 88 years old and announced before Trump even took office. The rest of them reflect poorly on the state of the Congressional GOP.
Which is reason enough not to be forthcoming about it.
Mark my words, this trickle of “criticism” will become a flood and you won’t be able to find a soul who supported the Racist-in-Chief in ten years but Americans will be expected to “forgive” the GOP.
“Every day there is some indefensible tweet or comment to defend or explain,” the Republican said. “It is exhausting and often embarrassing.”
It all has a very Last Days of Pompeii air about it.
And Will Hurd with “Any Day Now” in the date column.
Oh dear, @kelaine, that sounds so, you know, logical and ethical, neither trait being familiar to these people.
Many of these 'baggers came into the House since 2010 and have no experience with being the minority. Cut ‘n’ run, 'baggers, cut ‘n’ run. So sad. So very, very sad.

The Senate, overall, is much safer for R’s seeking re-election because it’s not a representative body based on population, like the House. It dis-proportionally favors lower population conservative states, because the Founders never foresaw a country where the population was so unevenly distributed in city vs. countryside.
So we’re stuck with a Senate where it’s easier for Republicans to win than Democrats. There might be one or two R Senators in “purple” states that might be getting nervous, but I don’t think our chances are good for a Dem majority in 2020.

Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) told the Deseret News on Monday that he wouldn’t seek reelection.
Hands down - the best news Ive heard all day!
One wonders why none of the Rethuglicans has taken this issue up with Trump himself. Speaking truth to power can be cathartic.
But then I guess we’ve always known that the GOPers are all cowards.
Congressional Republicans told the Hill that morale in the caucus is low after functioning as the minority party in the House, and President Donald Trump isn’t helping.
They’ve been minority party for 6 months.
Bullies are such snowflakes when not in a position to be bullies.
“The odds are against us retaking the majority,” an unnamed senior Republican lawmaker told the Hill.
The treason, betrayal, and treachery can do that.
Sure would love it if some of the very lame brained Senators would follow suit, starting say, with McConnell.
… and the first quit is free
That’s not a meme. That’s old news. The remains are buried at Whitewater. Vince Foster knew, and they killed him for it.
Who knew that taking little children from their parents and stuffing them into cages would poll badly?

If there’s anything I can do to lower their “morale” a little further, I hope they feel free to let me know.
I’m sure there are more than a few Congressional districts where it polls quite well.
Everything Trump touches…
