The House passed the War Powers Act Thursday to curtail President Donald Trump’s power regarding military action in Iran.
Doug Collins should be censured for his grotesque remarks.
Who are the democrats that voted against ?
Here is the breakdown.
Administration officials headed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have been citing an “imminent threat” to American lives in the region that called for action.
However, neither he nor any other official has gotten much more explicit than that and lawmakers have emerged from classified briefings dissatisfied with the explanations given.
Well it seems the threat was to 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, 4 Afghans, 3 Germans, and 3 Britons.
When you initiate an illegal operation, a robbery for example, and unexpected gunfire erupts, if innocent bystanders are killed, you are subject to a charge of murder, even if you were “only driving the get-away vehicle”.
Elaine Luria was my rep briefly. She came into office 2018 beating a Rethug that cheated in signature gathering. She’s former military and I worried when she was elected that she wasn’t very liberal. Anyway, I’m sort of on the lose now till I find my next home so not sure who my rep is.
Why in hell did Democrats defect?
Red districts, I’d imagine.
His remarks were disgusting and I wish someone would stand up and tell him off.
Tell him to grow up and get serious.
Josh posted an article titled “Unmitigated Horror”:
And a short time ago, The New York Times reported that it has verified the authenticity of a video taken from the ground which appears to show the plane being struck by a missile.
That’s 180 innocent people blown out of the sky as a reaction to a series of events instigated by the ill-advised assassination of another country’s military leader.
Collins would have people believe that this move by Trump is worthy of admiration and support when the truth is it’s a tragedy. Deeply saddening, to me anyway.
Josh concludes, “The horror of all this is sobering, hopefully for all involved.”
This all did not have to happen. (Pardon the mixed metaphor) Trump is playing with house money, it’s not his ox that’s being gored. He’s safe and sound with his two scoops of ice cream and 180 innocent people are dead.
ETA:
It’s sad for the loss of life.
It’s sad for the families who lost loved ones.
It’s sad for the hapless Iranian who decided to fire the rocket.
And to borrow Josh’s words because they are worth repeating, the horror of all of this is sobering.
I see Max Rose’s name there, too. Former military and I think he comes out of reddish district.
I was surprised by his voting that way but, sometimes, when they know their party has enough votes to pass something, they get some leeway to consider the sensibilities of their home district and an allowance to vote no.
This has to be veto-proof, doesn’t it?
He does indeed–Staten Island. Won it from the GOP in 2018.
“Now, we have real questions of war and peace,” Rose added. “But those questions have to be dealt with through looking at the authorization for the use of military force, looking at congressional appropriations for long-term and protracted wars. It should not be dealt with messaging documents and straight-up politics. Congress is not a rapid response PR agency. It is a serious body. We’ve got to treat it as such.”
Based on that quote, I’d say he has a lot to learn about DC poliitics.
this particular resolution is non-binding
This is another example of strong leadership by Pelosi. She has popular opinion on her side in terms of launching a wider war vs. Iran. This is an effective way to check Trump b/c he’ll know there isn’t much political hay to be made by going down the path of war and a lot that can be lost.
Let this also be viewed as an example of impeachment putting max political pressure on Trump.
Because the Dems exposed Trump as corrupt, a liar, and a crook who is unfit for the job, he did not have the political capital to sell his Iran escapade to the broader public. He has lost badly at this but mainly because he never had the benefit of the doubt, because he’s a liar. Impeachment did that. All of you who contributed to, volunteered for or voted for a House Dem in 2018 did that.
Ah. Thanks.
This is the same Max Rose who was all over Ilhan Omar for anti-Semitism. Not high on my list since then.
Oh gag me. Just how long are they going to ride this same old hobby horse?
