This sounds like such a great start.
But, you know what fricken Moscow Mitch will NOT do with this.
It will probably never see the light of day.

In advance of any moves to conference Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) preemptively knocked the House’s plan, saying the Democrats’ Floyd bill was an overreach that would sink in the Senate.

You do that, Mitch, keeping in mind how long it is until the next election. Give every Democratic Senate candidate something to run on while there are still people in the streets protesting, Like the 1960s, this promises to be another long, hot summer.

Smart move to use Floyd’s name on the bill. The Senate will refuse it anyway, but it adds a little extra political pain for the R’s when they do.

Meanwhile, policing in Georgia is improving. At least they didn’t shoot the guy even though he was black. Considerable restraint.

How about a Senate Reform bill while we’re at it?

Isn’t that what we call an election?
The only way to get the House and the Senate to conference is to apply pressure to Republican Senators. Screw McConnell go with the people who are suppose to represent you.

There’s one coming up on November 3rd.

This will languish on #ditchMoscowMitch’s desk for the duration.

But can we please stop with this nonsense about how Nancy is a do-nothing? The real and actual history doesn’t bear this nonsense out and we’re not helping ourselves by constantly insisting she’s accomplished nothing.

Focus on the hundreds of bills, like this one, that are languishing on #ditchMoscowMitch’s desk and stop beating up on the folks that are actually doing something,

As one of my favorite memes goes: Those who say it cannot be done, should get out of the way of those that are doing it.

She’s doing her job. It’s more than I can say for the Senate.

Yeah, Heaven forfend he would bring it to an actual vote. There’s a majority to be protected here…

Damn straight this is “race politics” Senator Scott. It’s an attempt to right some of the wrongs done by one race to another. And it’s about time.
Unfortunately this bill will go nowhere while the GOP has the Senate. McConnell has already signaled that.

Even in the unlikely event it passed in the Senate, Trump will veto it. We will have to wait until after 20 Jan to get it passed.

What really pisses me off is the MSM’s only real question to Democrats: why aren’t you giving into McConnell and the GOP on this and accepting their bill? And the very next story they cover is how Georgia or Florida or wherever is body slamming or putting into a choke hold some other citizen.

It’s criminal the way they cover this.

That’s Forever…No matter what Moscow McConnell does right now, Floyd’s name WILL be written into future-passed LAW.

My understanding is that the Senate Democrats want to manage the bill in the Senate by regular order through the Judiciary Committee to develop a bill for floor consideration. Moscow Mitch and his minions want to debate the bill on the Senate floor via up to 20 submitted amendments which by rule would require 60 votes for acceptance. So every Democratic amendment for the empty shell fronted by Senator Scott would be fail for lack of a super majority. Choke holds, for example, would not be banned and reform would take the path of more pointless commissions to study the problem and Democrats would be complicit with Republican bad will. Let Moscow Mitch and Senator Scott would agree to debate/vote floor amendments by simple majority. Maybe then… It is the ordinary business of the media to miss this point in favor of the ‘both sides do partisan gridlock’ meme. There is mention in the link at paragraph 10 of 15 (why not paragraph 1 since this is the impediment?) where Senator Scott also plays the race card.

Pelosi is being smart. Send it to Moscow Mitch and tell him that a better bill will be introduced next year, so pass it now.

They sure corrected that “systemic racism” problem in short order.

This might explain why national guard doesn’t get pulled in much. Maybe they have to operate by international codes?
