Originally published at: House Passes Funding Plan With No Concessions to Dems, Leaving Senate in Deadlock
House Republicans passed their “clean” seven-week continuing resolution (CR) Friday morning on a largely party line 217-212 vote, setting up the Senate for a stalemate over government funding similar to what happened in March. Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) broke from the Republican caucus and voted against the short-term stopgap measure, which…
So, call your Senators ASAP to urge them to vote against this travesty of a House bill. It’s more important than ever that DEMOCRATS do not support this thing, in the state it’s currently in.
And defy Schumer, if it comes to that. Don’t give up; fight back.
Mike Johnson’s “Porn Meter” just registered “Full Tilt Boogie!”
Shut it down. And what’s the matter with Fetterman? He ran as a Dem but now he has joined the GOP.
This ^, Trump is not the CEO of the USA.
A severe stroke. Known to cause brain damage. (And yeah, that’s an indictment of Today’s Republicans. So cancel my show.)
He’s lazy, and he doesn’t like being in the minority because it’s no fun. So he’s on autopilot and doesn’t care if what he’s doing helps Republicans. He also enjoys trolling other Democrats.
And yeah he had a stroke which can change people. But I think there are hints of that attitude before the stroke. The stroke may have just loosened his inhibitions about acting out what he feels.
Is there a possibility that the Democrats cave to protect some group of people vulnerable to the negative effects of a government shutdown?
Good question. And Dems have to consider the vast majority of Americans who will suffer long term as a result of the provisions in the Big Ugly Bill vs those you speak of, whom will be at risk short term if/when there is a shut down. My view is that we need to come out on the side of the many, not the few. But we’re Dems, so we must also repair the damage done to the few when the opportunity first arises.
Not surprised he intends to be a traitor to his constituents.
Pennsylvania, pay attention. Put the pressure on to relieve him of his seat.
OT
Apparently a judge in Florida has tossed tRump’s law suit against the NYT. Say it ain’t so! I want discovery!
We deserve discovery.
I think you have him pegged.
“Now it will be up to Senate Democrats whether the bill goes to Trump’s desk or the government partially shuts down at the end of the month.”
The media, even left wing media, is already framing this as if the government shuts down it’s the Democrats fault. Can’t win. That said, we’ve got nothing to lose either, so I hope the senate Dems hold out.
I think Senator Blumenthal is wrong in saying that Trump misunderstands the necessity of providing health care for (poor) Americans. Either that or he’s trying to be diplomatic in not saying the president doesn’t care what happens to them. Anyway, the right-wing ideology embraced by Trump and the whole party says that those people don’t matter and don’t deserve consideration or help, regardless of reality.
Yep, when democrats couldn’t get enough republican votes to pass legislation it was the democrats’ fault. And when republicans can’t get enough democrats’ votes to pass legislation it’s also the democrats’ fault.
Schumer’s been making all the right noises lately. When you call your senators, add Schumer to the list. More support for his approach will help.
From ABC news site…
Senate fails to advance bills to fund government as shutdown looms
The Senate voted hours after the House sent them the short-term funding bill.
… … … … …
Thankfully I got my Social Security payment
If you ave majorities in both houses of congress and you do not have to negotiate with a president of the opposite party to prevent a presidential veto, then you are the party responsible for shutting down the government……FULL STOP. As the democrats have neither house, nor the presidency a government shut down is the sole fault of the party that controls these three parts of government. Senate democrats should not even negotiate!
The end point here may well be either the Dems cave or the filibuster is eliminated. Not sure which is less bad in the long haul.
That would be true in a rational world, but we don’t live in a rational world anymore. The GQP will skate on this; the Dems will have to defend against this position in the midterms. Sadly, the mainstream media and, in particular, Faux will blare the Dems to kingdom come with the failure to meet the deadline today.
@qwerty, I’d rather the filibuster be eliminated because, except for Fetterman, not one Dem in the Senate will vote for this and it will be clearly a GQP ‘victory’ that’s going to quash what’s left of the country’s economy.
