House GOPers React To SCOTUS Ruling On Trump Tax Returns

House Republicans on Thursday morning were quick to conclude that the Supreme Court’s ruling — which upholds Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance’s criminal subpoena for President Trump tax returns — was a “political” hit job.

The House subpoena expires January 3rd, 2021. If it is appealed again on new grounds, the supremes will have only 3 months to make a decision before it becomes moot (they go on summer vacation starting tomorrow and don’t return until October). They took over 6 months to make today’s decision.

Hey Kev and Gym why do you and your party keep showing the voters why in the world we should elect you to Congress if you aren’t able and willing to stand up for the rights of an institution you work in. We could save a hell of a lot money if we didn’t have so many do-nothings in the House and Senate, just let the Imperial President rule by divine right.

From the practical point of view it was a win for Trump. He can drag this as long as he wants, is not like he is paying Sekulow are of his own pocket.

Kevin McCarthy’s grasp exceeds his reach. He is the dimmest of dim bulbs. A 7-2 vote is political and I am Santa Claus.

Wait…he hasn’t actually read it but somehow can conclude it’s political? That’s about as transparently bullshitty as it gets.

McCarthy and Jordan. That’s a weaselly couple of defenders. SCOTUS did them a huge favor and they don’t even say thank you.

Laughable.

Next will be the accusation of activist judges, right? Activism being defined as when the court didn’t find in your favor.

Jim Jordan’s ethics are so thin that we are supposed to believe his judgment now? That’s hilarious!!

A political hit job would have been a 5-4 decision in Trump’s favor.

I would pay good money to listen to Trump’s “comments” to Sekulow. Here’s the deal - there were 7-2 decisions in a court that has 5 Republican appointees, including 2 by Trump himself.

That sounds cool actually.

Neil Gorsuch & the four liberal Justices just gave away half of Oklahoma, literally.

Really fucking stupid. If Trump and his enablers were smart they would say:

“well, as we have been arguing, this is just a witch hunt. The Supreme Court sent these cases back to the lower courts, and did not order Trump to turn over his taxes right now, because they had failed to show Trump did anything wrong.”

yes, its a lie, but at least (no taxes ordered turned over) it has some truth to it…

But instead they paint this as a big loss for Trump. Really a self-own.

The ruling was completely political and victory of Trump but you must give Trump and Republicans credit for keeping a straight face while playing along.

That is, as the article points out, the ruling allowed for a secret proceeding to get copies of Trump’s taxes that as a matter of law would have serious consequences if they are leaked before the election.

On the other hand, it delayed on a ruling that would have granted Congress without any legal or other obligation to keep Trump’s taxes secret but could have openly released them to the public within days of receiving them.

Trump and the other Republicans are, as the ditty goes, crying all the way to the bank or in this case courthouse.

One other point, as for Trump appointees who voted to give Trump taxes to a proceeding that will keep them secret until after the election, there votes had NO meaning except for idiots in the new media who want to declare their decisions what they are not, a statement of independence from Trump and the Republican party. That is because Roberts needs to protect the legacy of “The Roberts’ Court”, everyone knew Roberts would vote with the 4 impartial jurists but insist, as is his right as Chief, to write an opinion that protected Trump. Therefore it mattered little how Trump appointed justices voted because there were 5 votes to order release to a secret proceeding.
