Interesting. I did a little digging and here’s what I find (warning, this was a quick peek, might need some refinement later).
So, we need to figure out who’s hosting this site. For that, we need the site’s IP address (that’s the “Internet Protocol” address, equivalent to your personal phone number on the net).
Now, mere mortals don’t normally use an IP address directly, they use “DNS names” (that’s a “Domain Name Service” name), which allows you to type in “human readable” links like “parler.com”. The DNS system automagically looks up and converts these to IP addresses for you.
So I used DNS lookup tool on “parler.com”, which gave me the IP address “190.115.31.151”.
So, next I went over to a service called “WHOIS”, which is used to look up IP address registration information and entered this IP address.
And loh, it looks like that address is part of a block assigned to LACNIC, which stands for “Latin American and Caribbean IP address Regional Registry”.
In other words, it looks like they had to find a hosting provider outside the US!?! pauvres bébés…
