House Dems Subpoena White House In Impeachment Inquiry

I say let’s make Trump wear a patch of his “sponsors” like Ukraine, Russia, and China, among others, on all his suits like an ersatz NASCAR driver or a version of the scarlet letter.
Because, truth be told, he committed adultery on his country with another country -though we call that “traitorous” in geopolitical parlance.

“The Do Nothing Democrats can continue with their kangaroo court while the President and his Administration will continue to work on behalf of the American people,” she said.

“The Do Nothing Democrats" in the House have passed 448 Bills and Resolutions this session.

I don’t care to research, i.e. remind myself of, everything the President and his Administration have done to the American people.

17 hours of testimony in two days. Pretty soon, even Nunes is going to tell Trump he’s getting impeached.

Chances of Nancy Pelosi ascending to the Presidency: 15%.

Some never will. But FOX and the GOP, I wouldn’t count on them staying strong for Trump. The people who never really supported him but held their noses and voted for the GOP like they always had, I think they’re getting pretty fed up too. Watching the stock market go into fibrillation, seeing our international standing plummet, reading those damn tweets, he shouldn’t count on them next year either.

Fun scenario to draw out:

The Russia angle in this UKR mess gets revealed. Given that Ron Johnson is the accidental whistle blower, it’s a matter of time before this comes out. At that point, Trump enters [t]reason territory. He’s done politically. He looks to cut a deal to resign. Now, the GOP is stuck with Pence. Pence can’t run for POTUS in '20 because he’s guilty of the same crimes as Trump on this UKR and would lose badly (impeachment is also an issue). That evidence also gets revealed. It becomes clear that Pence will face an investigation and indictment when he leaves office. He decides to look out for himself and resigns and cuts a deal. It’s not possible for the GOP to get Pence to resign first and replace him because no one will get through the House. Nancy isn’t going to allow a viable candidate like Haley to get in there. She’s going to let Mitch stew in his mess. In those scenarios, the chances of Pelosi ascending to the Presidency increases.

Except maybe the guy that squeaked out a response the other day to reporters and is now reaping the tRumpian whirlwind for not toeing the line.

Rmoney has 5 years before he has to worry about reelection and Utah in general is not a very tRump friendly state these days. Even so, I expect Mittens to find a way to walk back what he said because, let’s face it…the guy is a wet noodle and has never been able to take heat for standing on principle.

Well, what stands up the most to me, is the wording IS basically a boilerplate for every precedent regarding Executive Privilege that the Courts have weighed in on.

The Courts have taken a stance that there needs to be a balance between Congress’s Oversight duties, and the White House’s need for the President to be able to receive advice. (That’s part of the reason that Executive Privilege is such a grey area). This usually plays out with the Court saying that the Executive Branch must provide Congress with documents, interviews, etc…as much as possible. And then they can make their case on what few things they believe Executive Privilege is required. Its a dodgy concept, but that basis is what is required before even pursing an Executive Privilege defense.

This Administration has refused any and every request, for everything…from papers to witnesses, on every subject. So they aren’t at even the basic bar for the Courts to consider Executive Privilege defenses. The wording here plays right into that, by drawing attention to it, and focusing exclusively (in this subpoena) about documentation.

Trump likes making lots of noise that Congress have no Oversight power over him, but that’s complete and utter nonsense. His lawyers are quite aware that when forced into court, their defense is going to be Executive Privilege, not that the Constitution doesn’t apply to their client.

As a side note, an attorney like Emmett Flood, is going to be extremely interested in litigating this matter, because by going with such a complete disregard for the precedent on what has been a very muddy legal concept handed down by the Courts, he is looking to pressure the Court to make more clearly defined rules. Not only for how it plays out for Trump, but for all future claims of Executive Privilege. This is the sort of thing that a lawyer like him lives for.

Can’t have those whistleblowers protecting the country, can we? Trump is starting to whittle down agencies and fill them with loyal Trumpists.

Hey, there’s a Kolomoisky reference buried in that thread:

Why, you ask? Well, the reason that he’d need to be schooled on the IMF is that the IMF had been threatening Ukraine that if they considered giving Privatbank back to Kolomoisky, they’d be cut off by the IMF.
