House Democrats subpoenaed Rudy Giuliani, President Trump’s personal attorney, on Monday, seeking documents related to his recent endeavors in Ukraine seeking dirt on a Trump political rival.
It says in the letter his lack of cooperation would be seen as obstruction of the House impeachment inquiry and result in an “adverse inference” against Rudes and POTUS.
I’m not a lawyer, but I don’t see how he can claim Executive privilege when Guliani’s not even a part of government, let alone the Executive Branch.
As far as attorney-client privilege, one wonders what private interest did Trump have requiring his private attorney to become involved. It’s obviously his 2020 campaign, but I don’t think he wants to cop to that.
By commingling government policy with his personal needs (presidential campaign 2020), I think he’s hard pressed on both claims.
