House Democrats sent out two letters to members of the Biden administration Monday, alerting them to new evidence of the scope of the Trump administration’s political interference in scientific-based efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic and asking for documents.
The Trump administration hit the ground running in the wrong direction. They did everything they could to ensure the maximum number of Americans died from the pandemic. Indeed, they created the pandemic rather than taking even the most basic steps to limit it.
Many former Trump administration officials have given interviews in which they stated that the pandemic was basically never discussed in terms of anything except how it would affect Trump’s re-election. He was the worst possible person to have in place at the time this tragedy began, and I would be surprised if anything came out that I didn’t already know. Still, it will be shocking to many Americans when they come to understand that he never had one meeting or discussion about how to actually protect Americans from the catastrophe that has befallen us.
Worst response of any advanced nation in the world. No one would have predicted that a year ago. Quite an accomplishment.
The former administration’s approach to the virus has led to 100,000s of unnecessary deaths.
It was genuinely depraved.
I can not see why investigations shouldn’t lead to charges against the instrumental players.
It’s good that the Democrats in Congress aren’t going to allow the bad behavior of the Trump administration to be swept under the rug…there are a lot of bad things that need to be dragged out, investigated, and understood. And, most importantly, that has to be publicized before the 2022 elections, so people understand that Republicans are just fine with the corruption that happened during the Trump administration, and their politicians would support it all over again as well as block any good that the Biden administration might do.
And this is why when VP Pence’s security aide Olivia Troye came out denouncing Trump she got the attention that she deserved. She say in on those meetings, she interacted with the players, and those that quietly faded away are complicit.
Yes, she is in a very small and select group of people who demonstrated actual courage and integrity before Trump lost. The people who knew and did nothing should be shunned.
For health care folks and all they care for and about, this is a perfect example of how Republicans think and act. No matter how cruel, awful, deranged of disgusting, they go for it and then blame the Democrats. They are so fucking bad ass that before their many awful plots even take shape they are already accusing the other side of doing it.
This trait is the worst of human behavior because it’s the opposite of unity, caring for each other and the planet, safety and good governance. NO. It’s all about selfish greed. And it’s the trajectory that is in play. The ‘better angels of our nature’ may interrupt it, but it’s an uphill battle.
Undoubtedly true, and I expect this comment will apply much more broadly once more information emerges, both short and long-term. There’s little reason to doubt that Trump’s regime was a near-bottomless pit of corruption and incompetence.
I agree: Trump and what was left of his administration was the worst we could have had. I disagree that you already know all that is going to come out. Not even close.
During the 2nd pres debate, when DT argle bargled that “Obama said war with NK was our biggest threat,” I was waiting for Joe to say, “No, we told you a pandemic was our biggest threat.”

the extent to which White House officials were pushing for a herd immunity strategy, in which enough people get sickened by the disease and recover to provide an immunity buffer. [/quote]
I think this overlooks the possibility (and degree) that the strategy was in part based on an understanding that non-whites appeared to suffer more adverse effects, with higher mortality.
