House Dems Demand Ouster Of Trump Hardliners After Rolling Stone Piece | Talking Points Memo

Yep. And those Republicans are scurrying around worrying about BANNON and now they find out the vipers are in the HOUSE.

And given the regular failure to copy-edit here gives you that confidence?

Doesn’t give me that confidence. Sounds almost too perfect, delivering the exact story that so many of us wanted to hear. Things like promising blanket pardons before the thing even went down that would be Alec Baldwin prop guns.

I could have guessed the names with 100% accuracy, didn’t we know this already? Not that there will be any consequences, except maybe a boost in their fundraising.

Don’t kid yourself, they already knew. Though I’m unclear how that lot managed to rustle up enough functioning braincells from amongst the squirrels in their heads to actually manage to plot, which is why they’ll get away unscathed.

Inching along with information to nail the RW seditionists and it seems many refuse to entertain the possibility it could be true. Negativity is rampant. Just a heads up, being negative does not cushion you from disappointment or save you from being wrong.

I think there’s a term when police find a cornucopia of evidence incriminating someone. It doesn’t really happen like that IRL.

I said this on the morning memo thread but I read the article last night and it occurred to me that the two sources may be angling for immunity from prosecution. It does seem as if Gosar -at the least- and Meadows are in a bit of trouble.

One would hope!

Have their been any denials by the representatives identified?

That is you would hope Rolling Stone reached out to them for comment before printing the story.

Also, where did the meetings take place?

If they took place in their (the reps) offices, there will be a record of the meetings. Likewise with phone calls.

If they had ā€œDOZENSā€ of meetings with representatives most of whom are to ā€œwhateverā€ to think they were doing anything wrong, there will be corroborating evidence.

I think the second step is to get those accused on the record either confirming, squirming or denying the allegations in Rolling Stone.

I hope it’s a treat and not a trick.

This is why the DOJ roll is so important. If the DOJ considers the allegations credible enough to investigate, that is one step. If the DOJ seeks indictments, that will force GOP House leadership to take action by suspending their committee assignments (I know Greene has none) or come out in favor of the insurrection.

There’s very little new here, just maybe the part about Gosar specifically dangling pardons (a big deal) and the insurrectionists being pissed off at Trump (not a big deal).

Except for these two things, we’ve pretty much already got the receipts.

A rock-n-roll magazine at that.

Josh argues this morning that the Rolling Stone article is no smoking gun, and isn’t really new news. To the extent the article is about planning/organizing the rally, that may generally be true.
The one piece of info that looked new to me, and implies knowledge of guilt (by both the offeree and the offeror) is the alleged offer of blanket pardons. Those aren’t usually needed for people just looking to exercise their First Amendment rights. OTOH, I do generally like to secure one before ā€œtouringā€ government buildings :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

ā€œ*Rolling Stone has separately obtained documentary evidence that both sources were in contact with Gosar and Boebert on Jan. 6. We are not describing the nature of that evidence to preserve their anonymity.*ā€

So corroborated.

This appeared this am in Heather Cox Richardson’s write up of the event:

Nick Dyer, who is communications director for Greene, said the congresswoman was only involved in planning to refuse to accept certified ballots, nothing more. He tried to compare Greene’s actions with those of Democrats who objected to Donald Trump’s 2016 win, and said that no one cares about the events of January 6 amongst what he suggests is the disaster of the Biden presidency.

No other spokespeople for the lawmakers involved answered requests for comment.

So someone tried to follow up, but little was said.

VERY big deal, implying that maybe T**** was at least vaguely aware? Or Gosar was talking out his a$$??
