House Republicans have been adamant for some time now that they will hold the debt limit hostage and let the government default on its debt unless they get the budget cuts they want — which have long included major cuts to social programs like Medicare and Social Security.
President Biden’s proposal to raise taxes on billionaires is actually a great idea. Too bad it’s not something that Dems ever advocate when they control Congress.
Biden is showing his FY24 Budget cards now which 1) reduces the deficit, 2) increases the Defense budget, 3) stabilizes Medicare, and 4) increases equity for wealthy and medium income taxpayers. What is not to like.
He addresses each GOP talking point with actionable plans. The GOP will have a very hard time matching Biden’s deficit reduction numbers with discretionary non-Defence cuts alone.
That will put the GOP on the defensive - right where the POTUS, OMB and the Congressional Democratic caucus want them. Unfortunately I don’t know if the GOP caucus in the House has the ability to bargain with anyone except themselves.
This still looks like Trainwreck to me unless Jeffries can peel off enough moderate GOP House members to pass a spending bill over McCarthy’s objections. Will see.
Plenty of R’s were elected in Biden-friendly areas and by narrow margins. They should be made aware that people are holding THEM just as responsible for regressive social policy as the most feral MAGAt…
The bananapubbies’ plan is to posture, expostulate, bullshit and lie and continue to pretend that the plan fairy will pay them a visit in the very near future.
Relax. I understand that they will share their budget plan about two weeks after they provide their detailed proposal for replacing and improving the Affordable Care Act.
“Show us your plan,” Jeffries said to reporters during his weekly press conference. “What are you hiding from the American people?”
“We’re still waiting for extreme MAGA Republicans in the House to show us [their] plan,” Jeffries said. “How do you want to invest in building an economy for everyday Americans? How do you propose dealing with the challenges that you often talk about with respect to the deficit? Are you committed to undermining social security, Medicare and Medicaid?”
Oh, dear. Jeffries is asking the GOP to–gasp!–govern!
Hmmm, you give them too much credit on that “bargaining with themselves”, since this group only thinks of what is best for the individual member or their sound bite on Fox News, and not what is best for the United States.
In addition to the various forms of criminality that the evil Mr. Trump has mainstreamed to America, he has also virtually started an industry of adolescent thought and behavior.
It is almost as though the Dems are the beleaguered parents of insanely rich, near manic-spoiled and hyper-aggressive teenagers hooked on emotional mischief and na nana naaaah naah !!!…
…who still manage to project persecution by the grown-ups.
All one has to do is to simply read what Jeffries is saying in this article
Damn. Jeffries brings it. Focusing on the fecklessness of the MAGAts is long overdue, keep pounding them on budget cuts and forcing a debt default.
There’s some danger of the Dems coming up with gasp a coherent political message and pushback, rather than running and hiding. Dark Brandon is leading on this.
Everyone knows the treason party has no plan. The cult base will get even more pissed off if they say they do have a plan, because they were elected to ransack, not govern.
I’m wondering if we’re beyond the point where showing the voters that one side isn’t serious at all about keeping the fed gov running has an impact. It was obvious that’s what they were going to do going into the midterms. Props to Jeffries for hitting them over the head with it as often as possible, but someone needs to find the panic button on the silent bystanders in the treason caucus and push it.
The reality of the situation is fairly clear, and typical of the modern GOP. The implicit plan, the one they don’t want to talk about or own in public, is to give money and advantages to the moneyed interest groups that support them.
The public “agenda” is to claim that the Democrats are irresponsible and unfair, without specifying the basis for these grievances or talking about a practical alternative agenda that would address these imagined problems.
Their agenda is “vaporware” pure and simple, because they know they can’t stand behind their real position in public.
