House Dems Are in Touch With Capitol Police About Trump Death Threats

Thanks ! My question was mainly rhetorical but these days who knows where the bottom is ? I’m not sure about the longevity issue, with his money all kinds of treatments are possible. So here’s hoping that he treats himself right into a docket somewhere !

They’re just looking forward to the day when the Roberts Court issues an emergency ruling that, if the President orders something, it is by definition not illegal.

Didn’t Nixon say something about, if the President does it, it’s not illegal?

Wanna know how many Scaramuccis it would take to write that opinion?

And then how many to write the reversal if a Dem becomes President?

I am sorry but that statement from Democratic leadership simply is not strong enough. They should have added that he should be impeached, removed, and imprisoned immediately, and put on trial for overthrowing the constitutional order and aiding and abetting our foes and adversaries in trying to install a similar system in the US as that in Russia, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, China, etc. It should have further added that impeachment proceedings will begin immediately for Supreme Court members and members of congress for aiding and inciting insurrection against the US government by virtue of their support for one who would overturn the Republic.

No need to add it, but I would add that anyone who voted for Trump in 2024 has no right to the franchise - and that’s not me, that’s Lincoln, who noted that those who would deprive others of freedom deserve it not for themselves.

Trump and his minions are vile. So are their supporters at large among those of you living in the US.

The latest “deal” between Putin and Trump calls for most of the maximalist demands of Russia to be met, including dropping sanctions, giving Russia more control of the Black Sea, ending war crime investigations, and forgiveness on payment of war reparations to Ukraine (now around $2 trillion). It is as if Trump has unilaterally left NATO. Something very bad wrong is happening, and it seems Putin is trying to squeeze every favor Trump can give him now because he sees Trump’s relevance fading.

Trump’s regime has committed crimes. Those crimes ought to be investigated and tried as such. The kidnapping of Abrego Garcia in the face of the judge’e orders for one example. Their excuses are laughable and were the case brought before a jury their would be no reasonable doubt.

Similarly with ramming that car in Chicago and shooting the driver multiple times.

‘He Is Out of Control’: MAGA Demands Answers After Trump Ambassador Mike Huckabee Covertly Meets With Spy Who Sold American Secrets

Prominent supporters of President Donald Trump demanded answers on Thursday after it was revealed that U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee had held a secret meeting in Jerusalem with Jonathan Pollard, a convicted spy who sold American secrets to Israel.

Reacting to news of the July rendezvous, which reportedly raised concerns at the CIA, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said, “This is shocking behavior from a United States ambassador. Is Huckabee going to explain it?”

Fight erupts on Senate floor over provision letting senators reap millions from suing DOJ

Democratic senators clashed with Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) on the Senate floor Thursday when the GOP leader proposed a resolution to clarify that any damages won by Republican senators from lawsuits against the Department of Justice (DOJ) would go to the U.S. Treasury and not to the senators’ bank accounts.

Responding to complaints that empowering Republican senators to sue the Justice Department for millions of dollars is inappropriate or unseemly, Thune on Thursday proposed a compromise.

He suggested that colleagues approve a resolution by unanimous consent to clarify that any financial compensation awarded to senators would go to the U.S. Treasury, so that lawmakers would not be seen as enriching themselves.

“This would clarify that any damages awarded under this law would be forfeited to the United States Treasury. So, no United States senator could benefit,” Thune, who this week has steadfastly defended the provision that’s divided lawmakers, said.

Democrats immediately shot down the proposal, declaring it didn’t go far enough to address the appearance that the recently passed law had created a major conflict of interest.

Justice Department reverses course, now says full grand jury reviewed James Comey’s indictment

n just 24 hours the Justice Department has done a complete reversal on its position regarding whether the full grand jury in the James Comey criminal case reviewed the indictment before it was handed up to a federal judge in September.

Acting U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, who presented the case by herself to the grand jury on Sept. 25, testified Wednesday that when jurors voted to indict the former FBI director on two of the three counts submitted in the original indictment, a final revised document showing the two counts Comey was charged with wasn’t reviewed by the full grand jury. Instead, its viewing was limited to the jury foreperson and an additional grand juror.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyler Lemons, who is leading the prosecution of Comey, also said the full grand jury had not reviewed the final indictment.

Republican rips into Trump admin over vaccine policy

According to the Associated Press, the CDC’s “vaccine safety” webpage was updated Wednesday with “The claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism.”

The website also says, “Studies supporting a link have been ignored by health authorities,” and “HHS has launched a comprehensive assessment of the causes of autism, including investigations on plausible biologic mechanisms and potential causal links.”

Taking to X on Thursday, Cassidy, 68, wrote, “I’m a doctor who has seen people die from vaccine-preventable diseases. What parents need to hear right now is vaccines for measles, polio, hepatitis B and other childhood diseases are safe and effective and will not cause autism. Any statement to the contrary is wrong, irresponsible, and actively makes Americans sicker.

A type of communication from a president can be legitimate political discourse when used to motivate a nation to war against another nation …

But when the president uses that rhetoric against the democratic process in his own government in order to retain power, it is not legitimate political discourse. Rather, as scholars of authoritarianism have explained, using war rhetoric against your own nation amounts to an “autogolpe,” or “self-coup.”

When Trump urged the Ellipse crowd to march to the Capitol and “fight like hell,” his words transformed an occasion of legitimate political discourse into an anti-democratic violent insurrection.

The result was real physical violence, characterized by Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, a 42-year-old veteran of the war in Iraq, as a “medieval battle.” Several people died and many were injured.

American democracy was damaged as well.

Democracy isn’t a game. To respond with appropriate seriousness, Americans can’t frame moments such as Jan. 6 simply as a “competition between left versus right

…when political leaders refuse to play by the democratic rules of the game, democracies weaken, and may even die
