This could be an episode right out of the Noah Hawkey show Fargo.
The price of a life according to Republicans. From what I’ve seen during the pandemic, that value may be on the upper end too.
how is a $1000 fine the punishment for killing a man while driving negligently, hiding the evidence and lying to the police? this whole story sticks to high heaven.
Yeah, whatever. Ryan was deemed a heretic and excommunicated a long time ago. Nobody - and I mean nobody - gives a sh*t about anything he has to say.
Ryan’s already fully onboard the grift bus, no need to suck up to TMFWWNBN. As he’s a “srs policy wonk *”
*=shit he made up to make the numbers work
How many tickets does it take before his license is suspended? Or does he get the special white guy politician deal on those too? With that driving record, the absurdity of his plea “deal,” aka “gift,” becomes even more apparent.
Can somebody related to the victim in some way PLEASE SUE THIS GUY!
Um, not really. there are a lot of miscarriages of justice around the US. The standard joke in Colorado was that it was cheaper to murder someone during hunting season than kill a deer out of season. Take your boss hunting. Manslaughter on the Golden Gate bridge in SF was cheaper than littering. Someone pointed this out and it was fixed, but remained in place for a few decades. Some would notice that Ca thought this was wrong and fixed it; SD? Not so much.
Does speeding introduce plausible deniability to hit-and-run? Sorry, it was all such a blur because I was driving nearly twice the speed limit when I hit that deer.
No, these are not my glasses, officer.
Don’t be silly. Paul Ryan was a “Policy Wonk”. He never put numbers to this stuff. It was all smoke, mirrors and magic wands that couldn’t be disproven. Numbers were anathema.
If there were two-party government in South Dakota, this killer would have already been in jail.
INAL, but the charges he negotiated will make a civil suit more difficult. No legal blame was determined via law enforcement or plea deal.
To top it off, he most likely had a few drinks at the political fundraiser he was driving back from.
I’m no lawyer so could one explain to me why Joe Boever’s family isn’t pummeling Ravnsborg with a wrongful death lawsuit or any other legal action or is it best to wait until after the slap on the wrist is given out to Ravnsborg before proceeding?
There’s something about those arrogant SD politicians. Remember this?
Greysea, he only made it to A.6667, not to B.
It shows that any sense of honor, integrity and ethics remains far removed from that GQPer. Someone with a conscience would have resigned long ago.
IOKIYAR - always.
The protection he got from Lawn Forcement* was in two stages.
First the sheriff - a friend of his - covered for him so that he could sober up before “discovering” the body and reporting it, so there would be no blood or breathalyzer evidence
The second was the decision by prosecutors to throw the book, the other way as far as they could, then just tap him on wrist for a hit-and-run felony.
So a guy who clearly should be behind bars is still attorney general.
*It does not seem to enforce laws with Republicans so it should be called something else. Maybe it has more to do with lawns.
“Forget it Jake, it’s South Dakota”
So? Obama continued in office for years after wearing a tan suit.
