Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is launching a bid to topple Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), one of the most vulnerable members in the chamber, a week after dropping out of the presidential race.
Hickenlooper is probably the last person Gardner wants to run against, so this is good news. Let’s hope the Dem primaries remain civil and constructive, we don’t need any bad losers weakening the winner.
I think it’s a big sacrifice on his part (I believe he really doesn’t like to be in the legislative branch, especially in the minority). Many thanks to him and hope he wins.
Gardner is about as reasonable as Rubio or Kasich. He occasionally says something to try to sound moderate but he is a hard right conservative who hides from his constituents. We have some well qualified candidates in the race but Hickenlooper’s name recognition and recent stint as governor will probably make him the front runner as of today.
Nice. I’ve been bullish on the Senate for a while. I think we have a shot at the following seats: CO, AZ, ME, IA, NC, GA, TX, KS. I also think we could get MT if Bullock runs, and possibly AK if Begich runs. The outside shot is in South Carolina.
There’s already a good Democratic candidate to unseat Cornyn, MJ Hegar. Beto should start campaigning for governor. Or for something that doesn’t involve being elected to office.
And who would you have Mayor Pete run against, back home again, in Indiana?
