HHS Downplays COVID Testing Bottlenecks | Talking Points Memo

For weeks, COVID-19 testing in the United States has been complicated for many by a single factor: the time it takes to get a result.

… what will control the outbreak is personal responsibility,ā€ he added.

Personal responsibility doesn’t seem to be cutting it with the folks who want to congregate in bars, party or just be unencumbered by burdensome face masks, among other causes.
And why would it? We have an administration whose leadership, when not calling on their supporters to ā€œliberate,ā€ ā€œreopen,ā€ or send children back to unfunded and crowded schools, regularly makes appearances at events that disregard protective measures like masking and social distancing.
As it is used, this ā€˜personal responsibility’ is just an excuse used to shift blame.

I suspect, with the death today of higher profile Herman Cain and the recent infections of both the National Security advisor and Gohmert, things might get just a little more serious for this administration. It’s inching its way closer to the President and his family. At some point, it’s going to hit one of them.

My local school district is hesitant to open in the fall if test results take too long. What will they do if a kid at school has a fever? Send them home, but what about the rest of the class and the teachers, etc.
They need rapid turnaround! This is such a huge part of the problem, and the administration is to blame. Testing should be ubiquitous and results rapid, surely by now.

There’s nothing else he can say if he wants to keep his job and please his master.

In a world where accountability mattered, this would be inexcusable, and a real leader would have ramped up production so that we had a surplus of tests and were shipping them to nations that needed more testing capability. That’s how it’s always worked before, the US was the leader and helped other nations, instead of being the pariah that couldn’t manage to tie its shoes before running the race.

Here’s hoping that we do the right thing as a nation and throw out the feckless excuse we currently have for a government and replace it with Democrats that work to help the American people instead of dominate them.

There is a scientific term for Giroir’s analysis of the testing situation. It’s ā€œBullshit.ā€ Hospital testing is mostly performed on symptomatic individuals to determine treatment options. Rapid point of care testing is so scarce that it is practically meaningless to the general public and until it is, contact tracking is worthless. If the administration was serious they would use the DPA to facilitate/order the production and distribution of the rapid system for every school, drug store, shopping center, health center and gas station. The fact that the US has <5% of the world’s population and almost 25% of COVID deaths is a testament to just how inept these people are.

A website that made it easy for grieving people to upload video of what they thought of Donald Trump would probably be cheaper and more effective than the Lincoln Project.

What can you say about an Administration that can’t even get testing right, 6 months into a pandemic with a death count over 150k and over 4 million people infected? It’s criminal negligence at the least.

When you can’t get a test result for almost 3 weeks, which is about the amount of time it has taken the two people I know who have gotten tested to get theirs, what good is it?

How sweet that would be.

Then again, I thought reality TV would nauseate the populace to the point that they might change their ways.

Everywhere the Right Wing are in charge in the world there is magical thinking and body bags. This truly is the last of the monkey people. I hope.

I’ve mentioned this before. I’ve been tested three times and will have one tomorrow (a long story why) at a testing site run by a hospital with a doctor and nurse there to do intake before someone else at the site tests me. I get the results in under 30 minutes. Are there no private venues or clinics near DAL where people can go for faster results?

What will control the epidemic is if the politicians show political responsibility and pass the necessary laws.

I am going to assume that if someone is going to have a procedure of some kind they can get a quicker result. The two people I’m talking about were tested in two different counties by two different med stop type outlets.

Unfortunately, HHS is run by a bunch of political hacks and morons now. Can’t believe anything they do to deal with this pandemic anymore or anything they say. Also, they still aren’t dealing with immigrant children at the border, many of whom have the virus and are not being properly cared for. This is on HHS as well.

Almost every agency I can think of under tRump has been taken over by political hacks who all tend to undermine their respective missions. Most of the goons he has are ā€œacting headsā€ never confirmed by Congress.

Yes, mine have all been linked to either procedures or medical office visits such as my ophthalmologist.

Having sat in a dental chair for a couple hours last week, I wonder if they should test people. They do temperatures, but that’s probably not good enough. This office online talks about all they’re doing, but didn’t see anything about testing, etc people that work there. Bad time to go for anything IMO.
