Does Pete Hegseth continue to twist in the wind or does Trump pull the plug and let Ron DeSantis or whoever the replacement is jump-start their own confirmation…

Thanks for the Mavis Staples, David. Much appreciated.

Meanwhile, in idiocracyland, this quote from Sen. Tommy Tuberville (MAGA-AL), who shows yet again that winning football games has absolutely nothing to do with anything else, particularly brain power:

Donald Trump did all the vetting they needed to do on Pete Hegseth. And I just can’t believe—we even have people on our side saying, ‘Well, I’ve gotta look at this, gotta look at that.’ What they’re doing is throwing rocks at Donald Trump. They’re not throwing ‘em at Pete Hegseth. They’re throwing ‘em at Donald Trump, because they’re saying, well, we don’t believe you did the right vetting and we don’t believe he can do the job. Wait a minute, that’s not our job to do that. That’s the Democrats’.

I wonder if Tommy has learned the branches of government yet. I doubt it.

David, thanks for the shout-out for Lake Street Dive. Such a talented band deserving of recognition. Here’s them doing their cover of Hall and Oates, Rich Girl. For anyone who hasn’t yet heard it (and for those who have), it’s a great start to the weekend.

Be sure to take your joy wherever it presents itself!

One weird fact about Sen. Tuberville: He’s right about the target of the rocks and why they’re being thrown.

It must be because he’s as dumb as a box of rocks.

States are buttressing themselves against the dangers presented by an incoming pResident.

The current administration is considering blanket pardons to protect people who committed the soon-to-be-unforgivable crime of telling the truth.

“Nice country you had there. Too bad something happened to it.”

Major insurers make drastic change as they ramp up security measures after brazen shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson | Daily Mail Online
Health insurance companies have started removing images of their leadership teams from their websites following the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The 50-year-old was murdered on Wednesday morning when a masked gunman unloaded several rounds outside of the Hilton Hotel in Midtown, Manhattan. Thompson was named UnitedHealthcare CEO in 2021 and earned a reported $10 million a year, and for several years prior he ran the Medicare business within UnitedHealthcare. His company took down his image and other executives’ photos on Wednesday, while CVS Health removed pictures of all of their top executives on Thursday.

So Hegseth’s mommy now says being on Fox News is the best training for a Cabinet post. Well, she’s right. Where could you get better training in compulsive lying than a “news” organization that had to pay nearly $1 billion to settle a defamation case for relentlessly pushing a story that even its most extreme right wing commentators knew was a lie? Or better misogynistic grooming than in an organization the bulk of whose executives and on air talent regularly commit sexual assaults and harassment?

Oh, c’mon, man—the problem is as plain as the nose on your face: it’s the hoodies!

Fun fact: Representative Bobby Rush was not permitted to enter the House wearing a hoodie to protest the murder of Trayvon Martin. But this fashion fatality was allowed by Kirsten Sinema:

Color is everything.

In another sign the writing is on the wall, Trump is not calling senators on Hegseth’s behalf.

Here’s the reason he stopped making calls.
“This is President tRump (sic). Is Senator *** in.”
Staffer. “Senator, tRump is on the line for you.”
Senator ***. “Tell him I’m on the can.”
tRump heard it.

I am sure “academic freedom” in this context means the degree to which right wing positions are amplified. Oral Roberts University stands to become America’s foremost recipient of NIH research dollars.

That’s okay.

We’re not the ones armed and shooting at Trump.

In 2015/2016, it was questioned whether Donald Trump had the required temperament to hold the office of President of the United States. I have my own opinion on that. Now, I say, one must question whether Pete Hegseth has the required temperament to be Defense Secretary. I have my own opinion on that, weighing all of his personality behaviors, alleged drinking issues included. One can draw some conclusions as to my opinions… Behavior is the truth!!
