ROME — The head of Italy’s national institutes of health says the country has hit the “plateau” in its coronavirus infection rate, three weeks into a national lockdown.
Yes, the curve for Italy is definitely flattening, however, they still looking at ~20K new cases a day even with the flattened curve. There is still a world of hurt in store for them over the next 2 weeks…
I’m grateful to hear this, not just for the people of Italy. This is yet more confirmation that what we’re doing works. Social distancing, economic shut down and different approaches to everyday interactions has a predictable and significant impact. We’re about two weeks into this and started off kinda half-assed, but I would expect to hear similar news about NYC in a couple weeks. If we can get national results to mirror this in a month or so, we should also have breakthroughs in testing.
We can do this, we need to work together in spite of the awful example set by this President.
Off topic, but relevant, I heard he’s considering a $2 Trillion Infrastructure plan. While I don’t trust him to execute it, I’d like to see it.
No matter how horribly Trump handles this, no matter how many Americans die, he and most media outlets will hail it as a huge success, the most tremendous success in all of pandemic battles. I wish a reporter would publicly ask Trump how many deaths it would take for him to consider it “not a great job”. He’s already said 100,000 would be proof that he did a great job. Okay, how many will it take to be considered a failure. Of course, it’s axiomatic…Trump can never fail, he can only be failed.
