There’s no Dejoy in Mudville because, alas, the mighty Louis has struck out.
But rank pessimism is so much fun!
Perhaps someone should pay a visit to Michael Cohen and ask him what he knows about DeJoy.
It’s more like a bunch of kids on a camping trip sitting around the campfire trying to scare the bejesus out of each other about the maniac with the hook for a hand and here he comes…
Kill DeJoy
I am wondering if DeJoy is aware of his legal jeopardy… at the federal level even…
18 U.S. Code § 1703. Delay or destruction of mail or newspapers
Whoever, being a Postal Service officer or employee, unlawfully secretes, destroys, detains, delays, or opens any letter, postal card, package, bag, or mail entrusted to him or which shall come into his possession, and which was intended to be conveyed by mail, or carried or delivered by any carrier or other employee of the Postal Service, or forwarded through or delivered from any post office or station thereof established by authority of the Postmaster General or the Postal Service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
“Ahhhhh, I doubt it…I dunno about that…dubious to me…”
Looks smarter than “I hope so.”
It doesn’t even have to be an economically downtrodden rural area like West Virginia, for Amazon and others to use local USPS for last-mile delivery.
I live 100 miles as the crow flies from Seattle, a fairly well off community, but it’s still semi-rural and remote by transportation standards. It involves a ferry or a very long drive around Puget Sound to reach Seattle. I get almost all my Amazon packages delivered by the local Post Office. Only the very occasional large or heavy packages go by UPS or Fedex.
In the very same state where Amazon is headquartered, it’s not economical, at least not yet, for the company to use its own delivery trucks out here for final home delivery.
My cousin, a retired vet who voted for Trump, is also a mail carrier in West Virginia. He said last winter that he would not vote for Trump again (with the caveat that he wouldn’t vote for Sanders or Warren). This is all getting very interesting.
Normally I come here to complain about Manchin but this feels like something he’d be genuinely upset about.
This has genuinely upset a whole lot of people on both sides.
Biden and Harris should make this a campaign issue. Trump does what he thinks will provide him with a short term gain, and he doesn’t care who is injured by it. His mismanagement of Covid is something that he can sell as a win to the morons who believe him when he says it’s harmless, but the Post Office is different. I don’t care if all I get in the mail is flyers for the grocery store down the street; I’m used to getting mail in a timely manner, and so are my neighbors, even the ones who think he’s the second coming. It’s going to be hard to blame this on postal workers when pictures of stockpiled mailboxes become memes. It’s also only a matter of time before we start seeing pictures of sorting machines in dumpsters or destroyed.
Legal TPMers: can this be a Constitutional Tort? If my memory of my Education Law classes is correct, those are usually expensive if you are found liable. Is that so? Can DeJoy/Trump be sued personally for harms in this manner?
You can always read his book, but after, I’m afraid you’ll have to (golden) shower yourself off.
Thread:
So many of you are writing, calling, and urging us to act to protect the US Postal Service. We share your anger and frustration about what Trump is doing and your alarm about what it could mean for the election. And we ARE working to stop him. Some things worth following: 1/
They’d never even be allowed in to take a look.
All but one are Trump appointees----because Bernie Sanders held up the Obama nominees, leaving the other positions empty so that Trump could more easily destroy the USPS.
I don’t care what Bernie’s motives were.
I care only that he didn’t think it through and has to bear a good bit of the blame for having DeJoy as Postmaster General.
Yay!
I think probably Congress people are hearing from constituents all over the country.
The real problem is the Board that appointed DeJoy. These guys do have relevant high level experience, but are probably completely blind to the hazards of group-think. There are obvious conflicts of interest. One can speculate with regard to deliberate intentions.
The six current Governors were all appointed by Trump and confirmed by the Senate. The Chairman was confirmed for a second term in December 2019. Three Members were appointed and confirmed in August 2019. Two Members were appointed and confirmed this summer. Read their bios.
There are five vacancies.
Robert M. Duncan Chairman, Board of Governors
John M. Barger Member, Board of Governors
Ron A. Bloom Member, Board of Governors
Roman Martinez IV Member, Board of Governors
Donald L. Moak Member, Board of Governors
William D. Zollars Member, Board of Governors
He was going to fill the vacancies right after he was sworn in on January 20, 2017.
Well reading further down it looks like NoJoyInMudsville is the 5th Postmaster General since they went quasi private not to have government experience. This may have been set up this way to try and keep it apolitical. Now the question is: when did Trump start nominating members to the Board of Governors? How far back did this plan of messing with vote by mail start? Who gave him the blueprint on how to take control?
