Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) fumbled on Monday night when asked what exactly he hopes to achieve by disrupting the congressional proceedings on Wednesday that will cement President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election, given that his objection has no chance of overturning Biden’s victory.
The answer’s easy: he’s sucking up to Trump’s base because he wants to be President in 4 years.
Asking a Republican for a reason is like asking my cats why they won’t eat the canned food they loved last week today.
How was Hawley to know that Bret Baier was going to play dirty and cite the Constitution? And for a guy who is so concerned about the integrity of our elections, he certainly didn’t complain about those election integrity bills that were blocked. Ask him about those while you’re at it, Bret.
It’s really amusing how people like Hawley, Cotton, and Cruz seem to genuinely believe that performative acts of dedication to the orange shitgibbon will magically transform them into an acceptable substitute for the man himself in 2024.
He ain’t stupid. However, his ambition exceeds his wit. He’s made the calculus that the Trumpanzees will still hold sway in 4 years. I have my doubts, particularly if the Mango Ex-POTUS ends up in a fashionable orange jumpsuit.
Yes he does, unless you are a Missourian who voted for him. If you are one of them, then Hawley triumphs.
The problem is not Hawley. The problem is those voters. We need to change their minds, not his behavior. His behavior will not change because like any politician he is doing what he believes is representative of the priorities of the people who elected him.
To unseat Hawley, Missouri needs an expansive door-to-door-to-ballot campaign like what Stacey Abrams has done in Georgia. Change the voters’ minds. God I hope the DSCC is paying attention to her.
