Has There Ever Been Anyone Like George Santos Before?

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

I came into today determined not to lead a third Morning Memo in a row with the saga of George Santos. But I am mere mortal running a small political tabloid, and Santos is a demigod of political scandal, bamboozlement and chicanery. I stand no chance against his formidable powers of cunning deceit and absurd scams. I bow before thee, George.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1445728

I’ve never seen anyone like Santos in American politics but I’m sure as hell glad he’s on the other side.

Really Really…This has got to be a first
So his wife was too ugly to have sex with??
Trump thought photo of accuser was ex-wife Marla Maple’s during deposition - The Washington Post (archive.ph)

That’s Marla, yeah. That’s my wife,” Trump said under examination from Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan, in a new selection of excerpts from the deposition that was unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

Trump’s blunder in a sworn deposition was quickly corrected by his attorney Alina Habba, who told him it was Carroll, not Maples, an actress and singer who was married to Trump from 1993 to 1999.

“Has there ever been anyone like George Santos?”
Tommy Flanagan comes to mind.
He’s obviously seen Morgan Fairchild naked.
“Yeah, that’s the ticket”

Remember, he has the best memory of anyone who ever lived so they must have accidentally shown a picture of his ex or maybe a cow.

Has There Ever Been Anyone Like George Santos Before?

I considered that question yesterday. We may be in uncharted territory with this guy’s fabrications and shady past. Oh – and sixrst!

So we are going to hit the statutory debt limit today and the Republicans are making it clear they will default on the debt unless Social Security and Medicare cuts are implemented.

All true.

But I sure am sick of it being TPMs main storyline right now…

Surely we can all agree Santos is an outlier for how overtly a liar and sideshow he is, but not souch as to warrant this level of attention.

Everything in this morning memo that comes after the Santos parts is 1000x more important.

So Boris Manchin and no doubt Natasha Sinema are all in with cuts to Social Security and Medicare, Medicaid…and among other things my pension as well…

I wrote a little earlier - this is a strategy he’s used successfully before: I never knew the guy, despite the guy’s membership in the cabal (remember cofefe boy??).

TFG is slipping gears, but who would know, based on his behavior over the last decade?

Maybe sidelining the main talent while adding some Newsmax sauce to the mix are not the brightest of ideas.

All this while the Biden administration quietly goes about its business trying to make the nation a better place for all of us. Going entirely under the radar.

Hardly. His untruths are spectacularly clownish for sure, but lying is how Republicans breath.

The fabrications from the mouths of most Republican Members of Congress on any given day on Fox are equally provably wrong and part of a big grift

Santos’ past is hardly more shady as well. Sure, he’s got some past criming he’s been hiding, but it petty theft and fraud, bad sure, but it’s not like he’s the sexual predator like The former president and at least 2 sitting Supreme Court justices.

Santos was a fun joke, but it’s gotten old.

I’d say about 1 in 4 Republican politicians is just like Santos.

It’s just we don’t have the funding to investigate them.

Gawd, I never thought I’d have to post this.

There’s an old saw in comedy - if nobody’s laughing, it’s not funny. New writers are needed.

This whole story is past its sell-by date and needs to be shelved.

We’ve got this guy for two years. End of story. It’s a sorry crime, all that he’s done, but the people that could do something about it won’t. When he runs for re-election in two years, the voters will most likely (not guaranteed) send him packing. But until then, he’s there and we’re stuck with it. Rubbing noses into the urine spot that is his story isn’t helping.
