Harris Stands By Confronting Biden Over His Record On Race

2020 candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) told reporters on Sunday that she doesn’t regret hitting Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden over his record on race.

This is unacceptable…

There is too little on this site I can see which portrays other parts of government in even an imaginary posture of checking this Orange Baboon in the WH.

Everything I see today portrays his complete dominance. Even his stupid actions suggest impunity. And resultant dominance

On the other hand, we have the old standby, "Democrats in Disarray’

She is using 2019 ‘standards’ to attack 1990’s (and before) votes. She’s like the teenager screaming about all the things her parents didn’t DO while never acknowledging the history, the events, the people involved with the decisions that were made. It’s not like I’m stuck on Biden although I have been accused of it on this forum. It’s that I don’t like playing ‘Survivor’ to get to the nomination. She’s leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Politics is a blood sport and it’s about time some Democrats drew blood. Harris is not my first choice, but with Biden absolutely refusing to apologize and take responsibility - like Pete did right after with his comment about his inability to help the situation in South Bend - then more power to her. What is it with these old guys and refusing to admit they made a goddamn mistake??? For me, the fact that Clarence Thomas has defiled the Court thanks to Biden is way worse than busing and again, he has nothing to say.

Biden is not a serious candidate. All of his previous runs have proven this. The sooner he gets knocked out the better. He’s one of the few dems running I am certain Trump would beat, regardless of polling over a year out.

What she says she found “hurtful” was the set of comments Biden made in the last month or so.

I’m betting the new TPM Discobot is a closet Republican…

I love Kamala, she’s my top pick. The only worry I have is that she isn’t going to crack any of the white dude vote outside of devoted Dem white dudes. Maybe it won’t be needed, but that’s my biggest concern there.

This is astute politics by Harris and it aligns to what her core values are.

A big part of Harris’ message is about speaking truth on race and changing the administration of criminal justice and public policy to embrace diversity and to stop pandering to GOP driven racist fears. She wants a new social contract post-Trump that embraces diversity and fairness and doesn’t run from it.

What she’s doing here is telling black folks that Biden’s out of touch rhetoric means he won’t change that much on issues of racial justice. She was not able to make that sale because of the Obama halo that Biden has. However, Biden’s mistakes on the trail over the past 4 weeks left an opening and she seized upon it to make her case. I suspect Warren will do the same thing to Biden on women’s rights as the Anita Hill version of Biden vs the VAWA version of Biden leaves room to exploit. Many African Americans are willing to prioritize beating Trump over these issues, but many know Harris is right (Warren too). However, Harris’ performance in the debate made her look a presidential and as electable as Biden. If that sentiment persists, Biden will lose more black voters to Harris.

Biden folks need to realize that either Harris or Warren can win this thing. They’re rising because they both look Presidential. Biden would do well for himself and the country if he made speeches that showed considered reflection and his journey on race/gender issues. I think it would go over well. If he doesn’t do that and continues with this petty, whiny sniping from his staffers and surrogates, he’ll lose more votes.

Disappointing, I agree.

It’s one thing to hit on an overdue point of reference. Which Harris has done. How she uses it to make herself “stand out” is politics 101.

Let’s see how she does.

But, in terms of the Survival of the Republic. this is far down on my list. The Orange Baboon is a societal wrecking ball and he’s a-swingin’.

What are we doing about that right now? What do we plan to do?

That’s why the Gohmert story on Mueller was so important. By focusing on Trump’s M.O. one can discern that he is fearful of Mueller’s July 17 appearance before Congress.

But, sorry…that’s not good enough. It enervates, it discourages, it creates sniping.

Among us, the Democrats.

For those with historical bent, look back on old sets of comments (pre-Barr-sabotage) which spoke after Mueller had demonstrated some investigative success…and see the difference between those comments. And those today.

Well, it has been suggested – but I’m not entirely sure he could do it even if he were willing to.

I think Harris made some really good points. My hope, though, is that she and the rest if the Dems don’t get bogged down in the merits of bussing. Some kids like Harris obviously benefited from it but others definitely did not. Bussing was hated for several reasons, one of which was the fact that kids got bussed the other way - to the bad schools. I was one of those kids - it was not a good experience. Fortunately we moved the next year so I only spent one year in a lousy, underperforming, unsafe school.

It’s a great money raiser but she’ll get her turn. Lot’s of baggage as well, like when she made her cute comment about the food fight and putting food on the table for the middle-class, the same middle-class she wouldn’t defend when they were being foreclosed on in California by our present Treasury Sec’y. Her explanation being it was her staff’s fault. Where have I heard that before? Must say, she is deadly when on the attack, but I’m sure it angered many Biden supporters, white and black.

This just seem like something Joe did, or didn’t do really, that isn’t who he is now and isn’t really a big difference between him and Harris, in my tiny mind.

Even some devoted Dem white dudes are cooling on Harris. The primary should be about addition not subtraction.

To have any chance of winning the nomination Harris must take the Black vote away from Biden. In fact for anyone not Biden to win the Democratic nomination Biden must lose the Black vote. And that is what this is about, pure and simple hard politics. That is no one seriously believes Biden is a racist or that his stance in the 1970s on bussing makes much difference in regard to who Obama’s Vice President is today. But for Harris to point out that she is more attuned to the Black experience than Biden is completely proper and so far to my knowledge has not gone over the line.

The more important question is what affect will this have in the general election. If Biden is the nominee it could reduce Black turnout, but I doubt it. More likely if Biden is the nominee it may actually help Biden with White voters. If Biden is not the nominee, if it is Harris it could hurt against Trump as no White person wants forced desegregation today. If the nominee is neither Harris or Biden, it will most likely have little affect as hopefully that nominee will know how to navigate this issue.

She’s Sister Soulja’ing Brother Biden. Quite effectively, I might add.
How much the dynamic has changed since the days of Clintonian Triangulation!

We need a well funded third party runner to make that happen. Personally, I don’t see that on the horizon.

Bussing was not the problem. Racism is.

In the decades since bussing was pretty much abandoned as a means to desegregate schools, the disparity between rich “white” schools and poor PoC schools has grown even starker. The only way that the American people will demand that ALL schools provide high quality education is to assign children to schools at random within a “diverse” school system – and impose a substantial “sales tax” on private school tuition to pay for additional resources in public schools.
