Harris, Now Presumptive Nominee, Kicks Off Campaign In Milwaukee

Well, if taking a glass shard to the ear is such a great honour, I nominate Trump for the even greater honour of taking a couple more bullets. More bullets = more honour!

So relieved at how things have gone down so far. Don’t regret my support & protective nature regarding Biden, nope not at all. He saved us from trump in 2020 and has been one of the best presidents we’ve ever had and that’s a big fucking deal.

Onward, I’m getting pretty excited we’re going to win this thing. As in all VP choices, one of the very top items has to be, “can this person take the reins if needed?”

Re: TFG’s charge that the Biden-Harris administration did not protect him.
Now that the Secret Service Director has resigned (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/23/us/politics/cheatle-secret-service-director-resigns.html I hope we see the new (or more likely interim) Director establishing extremely tight security for all campaign events on both sides. I imagine that until the shooting attempt TFG kind of liked to play things loose on the theory that he was so beloved that he would not be attacked, and this is a wake-up call for him. If the security people demand more control over venues he will be limited on where he can go (inside events might be easier to secure, and might also cost more to rent–not that he has any intention of paying any bills). Harris will also be limited, but I don’t think it will bother her campaign as much. especially since I expect TFG to start dog whistling requests that someone attack her the way “they” attacked him.

This makes total sense. I suspect that DT called himself a democrat for most of his life because democrats held most of the power in NYC and (big plus for him) some were corrupt. He knew how to grease palms.

An actual bear, huh. I like it.

Good point about the vetting. Of the people I know anything about, both Kelly and Mayor Pete would be outstanding. There are a few “serious” non-MAGA Republicans out there, and they like Buttigieg’s demeanor. He has a real talent for connecting as a real person instead of a bunch of memorized talking points. Kelly not only has the creds, he’s one of the few people who can take Trump head-on regarding his “taking a bullet for democracy” auto-apotheosis.

Yeah - it’s not going to take long before we start hearing about the hurt fee-fees of Biden’s people cast aside in favor of Kamala’s team. Whether there actual is drama or not, there will be reported drama.

I think we should remind everyone how TFG treated the SS as POTUS. All the extra tax dollars spent to have them stay at his resort in Scotland and countless other things he did to drain their budget all to hell. Hell, he made Pence’s team go out of their way to fly to Scotland and stay at his resort on a trip back home from London, just because. Huge waste of tax payer dollars for his vanity.

So…me thinks we should hit him back hard on this and whatever else applies.

Let’s see if Trump or the media take the bait and start talking a bit about how old Trump is. Somehow I doubt this is going to work, but it will add some extra annoyance for Trump and he might lash out more. I say keep goading him. He’s sooo undisciplined.

Plus they weren’t allowed to pee in Ivanka and Jared’s house. We had to pay taxpayer money ($3,000/mo) just so they could pee in a separate apartment.

“Democrats have built a massive Coordinated Campaign in Wisconsin, which is now entirely focused on electing Kamala Harris as president. We have 48 coordinated offices across 43 counties throughout every corner of the state with roughly 160 full-time staffers on the ground who have already begun knocking doors, making phone calls, and engaging their friends and neighbors to support Kamala Harris and Democrats up and down the ticket.

As Smoove B used to say, damn!!!

Please do not denigrate Biden’s team with terms like “hurt fee-fees”. The last month has been entirely unprecedented in American politics. We’re supposed to be the party of empathy. If you want unity in your party, don’t badmouth your own.

Now, now.

Whether it was a bullet or a shard of glass, there’s no denying the gunman was aiming for his head, and that that he got off with only a minor injury is somewhat miraculous. What’s truly miraculous, by the way, is that that injury was only to the tip of his ear, and not to his eye or face, or, god forbid, one of the remaining hair follicles he is working so hard to create his trademark head-nest.

If he wants to milk that bullet, I say let him. Whatever. It only reminds people that he’s not as invulnerable as he claims he is. There’s a good chance a vote for him will actually be a vote for JD Vance, and while he may be rich and evil and shameless in his own way, he’s no Trump as far as the MAGA-hats are concerned.

Trump would definitely have to STFU with the whole “Took a bullet for democracy” BS…

Although he already said it, it’d be fun to wrap that around his neck.

Not that I blame Ivanka for that, who knows where those USSS whoremongers have been.

If you start feeling discouraged, head over to Tik Tok. Much like Twitter was used to organize and elect Obama, Tik Tok is where women and young people are organizing in support of Harris. It’s breathtaking to see how swiftly this is coming together. The sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the BeyHive, Swifties, and Boomer women who are angry that the work they did has been overturned, are joining together.

They are gently educating; suburban women and men are listening. (An interesting subthread educating White folks is how language can be a microaggression. For example, the White women calling VP Harris “Momala” was shut down right away with education about the history of Black women being viewed as Mammy).

Several organizing Zoom calls have been held with thousands of women joining and raising money.

This isn’t 2016. The things Hillary Clinton warned us about are no longer abstract. And, she won the popular vote so there’s evidence from previous elections that people will vote for both a woman and a Black person.

Either one of them would be great, although I’d probably give the edge to Buttigieg for his ability to knock down repub BS and to educate a little about how govt works without sounding condescending.

Beshear would be OK, I guess, but he seems too canned and I don’t think he delivers many votes on his own. I like Roy Cooper and he’s my governor, but he’s 67 now, so he would be 75 at the end of the Harris administration and you know he’d be vying for prez at that time, putting us right back where we are now.

I’d really like an amendment that puts a max age on the president, as well as a requirement to have been elected (not appointed) to public office at any level and serve a minimum of 2 years.

What a noble guy Sleepy Don is! Sounds like he wants to die for the cause!

Here is how Harris can sharpen her attack on Trump being too old. Tie it to JD Vance.

“Need I remind you that Donald Trump is 78 years old. He’s picked JD Vance to replace him. A President Vance will have double down or even triple down on Trump’s own disastrous abortion extremism. Woman could see all abortions outlawed nationwide if we get President Vance. A real possibility with Trump’s age.”

This does three things:

  1. Reminds and tweaks Trump about his age.
  2. Refers to a “President Vance” and not Trump which will annoy the crap out of him. Trump hates to be overshadowed.
  3. Brings up Vance’s very real weaknesses on abortion for which Trump/Vance have no answer and don’t want to talk about.

Ummm … sorry to have hurt you’re feelings but I think you missed my point. This is how the MSM will portray it whether actual feelings are hurt or not. And if you don’t think people who run campaigns are capable of center themselves before Democrat candidates they don’t represent, I’m not sure you have been paying attention the last thirty years. How many times have you said, “What the hell happened to David Axelrod?” Mark Penn, James Carville, …
