Yep.
I don’t know w/o looking that up, but it would take at least 90 days or so to hold a special election I would think, so might as well save the $ like you suggest and let the seat remain open until Nov.

After Mitch got reelected last round he had the state leg pass some fancy pants new restrictions on what Gov. Andy can do in the case of vacancy. That being that the Gov. can now only pick from 3 candidates presented to him by the super majority republican legislature instead of whomever he wants.
I’m pretty sure Beshear Admin. has a law suit teed up for the state Supreme Court challenging the new fancy pants restrictions if a vacancy were to happen.
