Too bad. Mike Johnson betrayed the Family and the Party bigly and deserves to be removed. I would love for Matt Gaetz, Nancy Mace, and Mike Burchett to step up as they did before. The hardliners are turning into flaccid wussies.

I am all for the GOP decapitating itself in the House again… after the government shutdown threats are removed.

These shutdown and debt ceiling threats have gone on long enough. It is tiresome. I think that it has to be dealt with so that it never happens again.

I’m wondering if those rumors that Democrats might step up and keep Johnson in the chair are causing the Freedom Caucus folks to worry a bit.
The last thing they want is to call for a vote on vacating the chair… and lose.
Hal is not running for reelection so he may not come back, but his district is heavily republican, ruby red, so it would be temporary if he left this early.
Of course, maybe Johnson should just cede the Speakership to Spork Foot – she says she wants it, go ahead and give it to her.
My understanding is that Republicans do have enough people to vote as of 01/16/24, and pass what they want. What the MTG’s and her cadre of misfits are finding out is that “they” don’t have enough people to prevent the House from passing legislation, that the “normies” and Dems want passed.
Yeah they can oust Johnson but wasn’t it 3 weeks before they got Johnson? How many Rs want to go through that wringer, again?

I think it’s the same rhetorical trick as “if the pope were here, he would understand “ and “if only the tsar/emperor/furher knew”. Blaming bad staff is a way to air criticism in an authoritarian system.
To those outside the system it looks like damming with faint praise, but if you’re foolish enough to air criticisms it’s the safest way to avoid reprisals

Johnson has ONE job between now and the seating of the next House - to pass a budget. That is all he needs to do. If they fire him because he passes the Budget - so what.
Johnson is NOT going to be the Speaker OR the Minority Leader in the next Congress which the Dems will control, but he is in a safely gerrymandered district, so he really has nothing to lose. He might as well do what is right for his constituents, which is TO PASS A FREAKING BUDGET.
