Today is Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday. The 39th president has lived a remarkable and extraordinarily unique life over the course of a century: from serving in the Navy, to running his family’s peanut farm in Georgia, to his years in the White House, to the decades of humanitarian and philanthropic work that followed, there is…

A truly great man. And he wrote some lovely books!!!

Just hope he gets to cast his vote for Kamala! I think absentee voting begins in a little over three weeks in Georgia.

A remarkable politician. An even more amazing human being. Screwed over with the hostage deal the GQP made to not be released until after Carter was out of office.

I was too young to vote for him both times he ran (I was 16 in 1980), but I would have gladly cast a vote for him. A tremendous man.

Voted for him twice. My first memory of Jimmy Carter happened at a baseball game in the spring of his first election. His campaign had an airplane pull a flag of his name over the stadium. I thought, the election isn’t for months. That guy has some real foresight.

A truly amazing human being in every way. He’s walked the walk in a time when too many sit on their hands and complain instead.

As a 20-year Habitat for Humanity volunteer, I have great admiration for Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. I worked on their Mishawaka, Indiana HFH build a few years ago. I just finished Jimmy’s book, “A Full Life” that he wrote when he was 90. He writes in another of his many books, “An Hour Before Dawn”, about his exposure to arsenic and other horrible chemicals on the farm, and yet he has lived a century! He is smart, honest, empathetic, a hard worker, and in my opinion has distinguished himself the best of any of the US former presidents in my lifetime (I’m 60). As president, he was mocked for asking people to turn their thermostats down to save energy (donning a sweater to show he was doing what he was asking others to do) and was weighed down by the failure of special ops forces’ to retrieve the hostages held by Iran. History has now shown he did his best, while St. Ronnie and his minions actively planned to delay the Iranian hostages’ release for political purposes. He was not a perfect president, but in hindsight, he was one of the best presidents of the past sixty years and a force for good throughout the world. Happy Birthday Jimmy! Thanks for staying alive long enough to vote for our first female president.

It is extremely rare for any politician to “walk the walk” of their inner belief. Most of the time they flame out with a short career. Jimmy got all the way to the White House without compromising his beliefs. And he continued to “walk the walk” after office without bragging or saying how great he was and belittling others as a certain Floridian does currently. I wish Carter well.

You missed one.

I supported Mo Udall in '76, and was disappointed when this upstart defeated him in the primaries. But, yes, I voted for Jimmy for President twice.

Jimmy Carter has been an exemplar of the values this country needs.
