The Tennessee race to take the helm from retiring Senator Lamar Alexander (R) in November will feature candidates from GOP and Democratic primary wins Thursday who could perhaps not be more different.
This should be an interesting race to watch, although the chances of the Republicans losing this seat are pretty small. We are talking Tennessee. But once again, the non-establishment Democrat prevailed. Biden will have to pay attention to the leftward movement to keep the party marching together - or at least in the same general direction. Democrats haven’t been really good at doing lockstep for a long time.
Also a lot of poor ones. And middling. Basically everyone is disgusted by him except opportunists, Nazis, and morons. And I bet most of the opportunists and Nazis are disgusted by him, at that.
I hope she puts up a good fight again. I sometimes wonder if Southern Democrats are trying to win general elections or trying to win dominance within their own party. I guess if you know you are going to lose, might as well select the most liberal candidate running.
I voted for her in the primary and I have met her.
She came to Warren County at a “Meet and Greet”. She was the only candidate that went to each person there and talked to them. She was laser focued on issues that actually affect Tennesseans. She didn’t have much grasp of rural issues - so she was asking questions and trying to get answers and ideas.
Bradshaw winning that seat is a stretch - but if it can be done this is the year to do it. With 160,000 dead and counting, hitching your wagon to trump may not be the best strategy. We’re seeing several non-establishment Democrats win their primaries. I believe this is driven in part by the recent awakening of the general public to racial injustice. The killing of George Floyd will have a lasting impact on our politics. There is little motivation for many republicans to vote this cycle, and lots of motivation for Democrats.
It could happen.
His entire campaign has pivoted to “when I lose, it won’t be my fault” whining about how things are rigged against him. He really wants his base to believe (and be very afraid of) having their way of life stolen from them by those undeserving others. It’s an appeal to the willfully ignorant and it worked in 2016.
It would be have been nice if you provided more information about Marquita Bradshaw, the Democratic candidate, other than she had a budget of $10,000 to run her campaign. There’s an incredible story there and you glossed over it.
Take literally ANY map of the US showing by state ANY negative attribute making the negative attribute red and the positive side blue. Will reflect a classic political map.
As a Tennessean I have to say we didn’t used to be that way. Democrats sometimes won and all our Republicans were of the Howard Baker mold. I don’t know what happened…
On the Dem side, Mackler wasn’t going to win anyway so it will be interesting to see if firing up the base really works.
