Maybe it is because I am from a family of sailors, I applaud more colorful (and more descriptive) language for ubiquitous terms like “brown nose” which, when you really delve into what that term means, is an asscrack sniffer who is so far up the other persons ass, their nose is covered in shit.
As Carlin brilliant skewered, soft language and euphemisms, nothing like good old plain language.

I am, of course, confident Chuck’ll do everything he can not to repeat his denial under oath.
Should it come down to that, though, I’m sure he’ll try to provide the basis of a lesson on the use of weasel words.

I’m not going in circles at all.
He clearly stated:
“…and we don’t expect him to be there…”
Which is not some perfunctory “what if” response to a question.
Grassley stated they did not expect Pence to be there. That is what the issue is, not what the process is if the President of the Senate is not there. If a reporter asked an oddball Schoolhouse Rock procedural “what if” nobody would have taken note of his answer. It was Grassley staying that they had the expectation that he would not be there.
You are tying yourself in knots to try and explain away his more than shady statement.

This tangled web is waaaay more tangled than we knew. So much to learn from Mr.Smith’s investigation. How many other esteemed elected officials knew about the plot ahead of time? This feels like the tip of the iceberg, who else was aware of Trump’s pressure on Pence and possible plans abc and d that have yet to be unearthed should that fail. It seems highly like Sen. Chuck Grassley had inside information.

“We” is who don’t expect him the be there. And don’t ask me (or us) where is “there.”
ETA: Or what we otherwise expect, such as where we expect him to be or how he will end up in that place rather than “there,” which isn’t the Joint Session even though that was the only “there” I was originally talking about.

I’ve become accustomed to posting comments at NYT, WaPo, SF Chronicle and other major newspapers and the language that flies here would be unacceptable in those outlets, so please, don’t condescend to tell me about decorum and my personal feelings about vulgar language. It’s vulgar and it’ll remain vulgar and unacceptable to me.

Scheme works so long as Trump Inc knows he would refuse to certify… He does not need to know that he would be presiding.
The ‘I will be presiding’ statement is pretty definitive though.
How does the timing in this work with Trump?
He is portrayed as glued to the screen intervening only very late. Was he waiting until he knew for sure that Pence had not been whisked away?
